Joanro hits the nail on the head. If the OP is understood, I believe that breeder involvement would lead to better dogs. Not a fix! but it would improve the mean or average specimen. If a breeder had to train each animal they would find out quickly which dogs would require more time to get to place of value from a trained perspective. If it is to be IPO that could be demonstrated by 70-70-80 in points. If it was to become a Law Enforcement dog; good grip, real barking, retrieve drive, slippery floor and other envirommental issues ect. Sheep herding would require certain attributes. I meet far too many ''breeders'' who have no idea where to begin after the egg hits the sperm. Time economics as applied to training would make breeders more aware of genetic ability. The OP is not making an arguement for RSV 2000- show- sport Super pet home, just involvement.

No one wants to respond to this?
A query for those who have bred one or more litters of GSD's. Those who have never bred a litter of GSD's or who don't even own a GSD, need not respond please.
1. What was your criteria for determining the breed worthiness of the sire/s and dam/s of your litter/s?
2. How many generations of your own breeding exists and what have those dogs accomplished in the big picture?

Its the dumb and bad selecting dogs and litters from the human who created bad quality of GSD today.
Are you a GSD breeder, Blackmalinois? If so, how do you avoid dumb and bad selections when you plan a breeding?

blitz; I do not use my own accomplishments to try sway this chat room so no answer for the second part of your query. On the first part of your question of what critera I use to find a breeding partner. 1] SV breed survey. parents must be capable to pass and in most cases have the document. 2] look for dogs I like who share similar pedigrees to my breeding dogs. I find these dogs at training sessions, trials, and breed surveys. 3 ] listen to breeders I find with accomplishments. where do i find these breeders? trials, breed surveys, and training sessions.

Uh, how does relating how your breeding plan has worked for you "sway" this chat room? Do you feel as if your breeding plan has been successful and why might have been a better question.
What you did answer makes good sense.

my program in the big picture? no answer. I hope that I am an important piece in a network of GSD lovers, breeders, and trainers. A cog in the wheel. No one dog or one breeding program will have more power than the efforts of a group of dedicated breeders,

OK, allow me to put this another way - how can breeders know that they are doing it the right way if they don't honestly evaluate the dogs they have produced? If a GSD breeder has bred for let's say 15 years, 4 generations, and their goal was to breed dogs that could title in IPO (or whatever), shouldn't one expect to see GSDs with IPO titles in their history by now? Breeding for SAR dogs? How many have made the grade? Breeding for police work? How many made it? Surely every serious breeder has a goal in mind when they breed a litter? Am I wrong? NO BYB's here, right?
Many seem to know all about selecting breeding stock and don't hesitate for a second to say - this breed is going to hell, the character is declining, you must title....you don't have to title.....titles and breed surveys mean everything...titles and breed surveys mean nothing...stupid people make stupid choices and they are ruining the breed. etc, etc, etc. So I'd like to know what they are doing to select their breeding stock and how's that working for them. That's it.
