A good GS dog would DEFINITELY react to protect its owner, anywhere, anytime, period. But nowadays we got crappy dogs.. I am sorry to put it like that but it's reality. And it doesn't only aply to GS dogs but to most working breeds.
"It's not a pet's job to protect you"... hehe... that's exactly the mentality that brought the working type where it is... sad, sad.... (by the way - why do they sometime call these dogs "guard dogs" or "protection dogs"..?)
One of the top WUSV dogs of our times ran away when a stranger visiting the owner dropped some keys to the ground (on purpose).. Hello reality!

Good post Zimbris.
It happens often Blitzen, more often than not. Even someone on here's ScH III dog stood by and did notihing while his owner was assaulted.
