I have been informed there are some people who are reading this thread who do not know they can or should click on links. Therefore I have included two of the LINKS which illustrate the CLEAR difference between the GERMAN Shepherd Dog in Germany and the German shepherd dog the UK Kennel Club standard.

I think with a definite split there could be major confusion with the public with them having the view that the Alsatian is the right type because that was the original name used for our breed and that the German Shepherd is the roach backed hyperactive neurotic type that are filling up the rescue kennels ....... I have had this said to me many times by the public when they are looking into buying puppies , so where does that leave the real correct type of dog which is the middle of the road dog without extremities either way ????. The public are the majority who buy all the puppies that are not retained by their breeders so my worry is that the public will sway towards buying the Alsatian type dogs therefore promoting the wrong type of dogs so even more of them are bred .
Whether we like it or not the public think the K.C. is God and are always going to think like that unless there is a way of educating them to the contrary ! ?.
The K.C. need to change that really awful picture they have on the breed standard for a start off !.

You have a point, Lynn. It would take a big and continuous, marketing effort to educate the public... but that's not impossible.
