So who are the Partnership!

by paulie on 19 January 2009 - 11:01

This post is causing quite a commotion, and obviously people feel strongly enough about it to warrant a concerted plan of action in order to take any action to the next stage.  Would it be possible to speak with our friends in Ireland to ascertain how they  went about bringing the Irish KC around to their way of thinking?  Perhaps then, we can decide on an agenda, maybe even call an extraordinary general meeting of the Breed Council, or even better the GSDL / BAGS. partnership in order to formulate a workable solution, because lets be honest we need one.

I have been informed there are some people who are reading this thread who do not know they can or should click on links. Therefore I have included two of the LINKS which illustrate the CLEAR difference between the GERMAN Shepherd Dog in Germany and the German shepherd dog the UK Kennel Club standard.

Sorry to get back on the soapbox, but here's a thought, what's going to happen at the KCs premier show CRUFTS ( who shout it from the rooftops about their International attraction )When a GSD/ Alsatian judge of the UK / KC persuasion, find themselves judging an animal  that has been winning consistently on the Continent, or in it's home Country under FCI / W USV standard , when a KC official enter the ring in order to instruct them in procedure.  We really will be the laughing stock then.

I agree something positive must be done especially with the Alsatianists apart from their poor construction their bloodlines are crammmed full of SERIOUS health and temperament problems and have been for years, the amount of inbreeding is disgusting which the K.C. don't give a toss about !.
I think with a definite split there could be major confusion with the public with them having the view that the Alsatian is the right type because that was the original name used for our breed and that the German Shepherd is the roach backed hyperactive neurotic type that are filling up the rescue kennels ....... I have had this said to me many times by the public when they are looking into buying puppies , so where does that leave the real correct type of dog which is the middle of the road dog without extremities either way ????.  The public are the majority who buy all the puppies that are not retained by their breeders so my worry is that the public will sway towards buying the Alsatian type dogs therefore promoting the wrong type of dogs so even more of them are bred .
Whether we like it or not the public think the K.C. is God and are always going to think like that unless there is a way of educating them to the contrary ! ?.
The K.C. need to change that really awful picture they have on the breed standard for a start off !.

You have a point, Lynn.  It would take a big and continuous, marketing effort to educate the public... but that's not impossible.
