mfh why would you say you know you will never place?  What is a fur saver? I did click on the links for the equipment I saw a collar without and one with a fur saver so I guess my question is why do they care if you use one or not?

I have a Sprenger fursaver. It is VERY light weight and strong. Fursavers are not great for dogs that have not learned to not forge or pull, but for trained dogs they are nice. I like them because you can use them as a choke or not depending on where/how you attach the lead.

You want to use a choke in the AKC ring. Not sure about UKC. Searackal has already shown the SV show collar. If you go to an AKC all breed you want to use a short leather lead (6ft), in a specialty 8ft or longer is appropriate. Best of luck!

You're welcome mfh27.
I hope you like the leash, the leather is really nice quality.

Good luck on your show!

Donner, my dogs are bred structurally more towards the SV standards, not the AKC standard.  So unless we are the only ones in the class, I don't expect to place.

Thanks all for the suggestions and tips.

You'll not want to show in a fur saver for AKC conformation.

I actually disagree :)  Fursavers are common in the AKC GSD ring...especially at specialties

They're easier to get from live ring to dead ring, and you don't have to worry about your dog backing out of the collar if you loop it over to connect the live ring to a dead long link.

Also, if you enter "Amateur Owner Handler" (which you can enter if you've never been paid for handling somebody else's dog in AKC), you stand a pretty good chance of making it into winners at least :D
