BIS It. CH, Am CH LYN-MAR ACRES M'LORD BATUFF, ROM
Born: December 25, 1965
Sire: Bats
Dam: Lyn Mar Acres Sweet Stuff
B/O/H - Walton
Own2 - Scaife
Own3 - Benelli
Many have seen this photo before but most never get tired of it. It is from the December 1967 cover of Popular Dog magazine. “Butch" was bred, owned, and shown by Mrs. Margaret (Peg) Walton. There is a story that when a judge asked about the winning 6-month-old's name, Peg Walton told him and said that he was born on Christmas Day. To that, he replied that since he'd been born on Christmas Day ... he would have named him Jesus Christ! Obviously, he was right, but his official name (Batuff) was from a combination of his sire and dam's names.
“Butch" was eventually sold to Mrs. Frances Scaife (a wealthy show dog exhibitor) and he was shown by a top professional handler, Jerry Rigden, but the magic just wasn't to be in the US all-breed rings. In his photo from the cover of the December 1967 Popular Dog magazine, he was born two years earlier so, my guess is that the photograph was made when he was between 20 - 24 months old. At the time, he was still owned by Mrs. Frances Scaife. "Butch" went back to LMA and was again sold but this time to Dr. Giuseppi Benelli in Italy where he earned his title (along with an Italian BIS award) and lived out his life. However, while in the USA, "Butch" sired at least 14 champions. Many, many moons ago, both breeder/exhibitors Francesco Lamarca and Bill O'Loughlin were separately able to work with him in Italy.
While researching, I've found that his name is spelled at the AKC with a hyphen (yet most after him did not) and that somehow, he has two AKC numbers:
HA766139 CH Lyn-Mar Acres M'Lord Batuff
(Basset Hound)
HA766138 CH Lyn-Mar Acres M'Lord Batuff
(Basset Hound)

This is a dog pedigree, used by breeders and breed enthusiasts to see the ancestry and line-breeding of that individual dog. The pedigree page also contains links to the dogs siblings and progeny (if any exist). For dog owners with purebred dogs this is an excellent resource to study their dog's lineage.
