I'm slowly putting together a website for me and my animals.
It's only in the beginning stages but you can look at photos of my horses.
The link is below .
http://tryppi.123.is/
I also sell horses and I have a sales page that I try to update regularly (all in english)
http://gerdar.123.is/page/22017/
Feel free to take a look.
With the competing on ice it's a real sport in Iceland. We use regular shoes but we use ice "nails" (sorry don't know the proper english word for it)
It's a big sport like I said before, and we usally compete in tölt (which is the main gate of the icelandic horse)
I'll put up a few links for interested parties.
Riding outside in the middle of Reykjavík (our capital)

And here is a photo link to the indoor arena show.

And here you can see what happens when the inspection is not properly done before riding on a pound.
Note this is a video not suited for people that have little hearts

Over the years I owned a couple of stables did some Western style training and QH breeding. Tons of work but great fun.
One thing my wife and I discovered was that we needed additional animals: 2 Barn Cats, 2 Jack Russells, and at least one herding dog. Well we tried Border Collies (too crazy around horses), ausies (just nuts), Cattle Dogs (nipped everything that moved). So, enter Tiger and Lion the GSD's the were great. Their herding style never upset the horses if someone let one or more out. It was like remote control. WE WERE HOOKED. (By the way the kids named them because of their paws).
Well, the kids are grown, horses are gone, but we still have GSD's - Not Tiger and Lion of course. They have long since gone on to the Animal Cemetary here on the farm, with many of the horses, a llama, cats, even a goldfish, among other critters the kids drug up to be rehabilitate such as Chesty the Great Horned Owl (he made 4 years, we think it might be a record- but he never learned to fly after his injuries. He ate all the pinkies the kids could beat the cats to.
Yep, Horses, Dogs and other animals all go together with God's creation.
Have a Happy New Year,
Tuff

BTW Shelby--- I don't even want to remember some of the races I rode in Ferndale. YIKES! I almost got days (suspension) for stepping out of the irons, sitting down, kicking the sides out of a white Arabian laughing "Who shot my horse?" at the 16th pole, because it was going so slow I was afraid I'd jump over its head or something.

I wear pro-tek knee pads when I train my beginners in the starting gate. LMAO
I almost blew my knee cap off once on the gate hinge with my irons low. I couldn't walk right for 2 weeks. LOL

nice Icelandics. I have to send my brother and his girlfriend your homepage link. They live in Germany and are Icelandic horse crazy. They can't understand that my daughter and I did not jump into that breed as well. But here in the U.S., I could not find any places who has them at all, while in Germany they are a true icon. My daughter did her first riding "steps" in Germany on them a couple of years or so ago and loves the tölting. I have never been on one but would love to try it. For ourselves, we just bought our first horse after lots of researching into breeds. We now have a beautiful chestnut Morgan mare, foundation bred (which is the equivilent of a workingline bred as they also have showlines, lol) and schooled in dressage. She is spirited and has the most wonderful temperament. We love her and will hopefully soon add another Morgan girl to our family.
Are there any other Morgan lovers here on this board? I would love to hook up with some, since I have lots of questions!

We call the 'nails' we put in the horses' shoes in the winter 'caulks'. We then say the horse is 'sharp shod', and you'd better hope it doesn't kick you as you're walking behind it!

Forgot to mention, I worked at Woodbine racetrack in Toronto one summer, when I couldn't find a job anywhere else. I was with a top-notch stable (Norcliffe, owned by Col. Charles Baker) but it was still one of the few places I've ever seen employees drinking on the job!

I also did 6 months as a working student in a large English riding stable, and took my lumps for it, as we were the ones who got to 'straighten out' the horses they were having trouble with.
Still, doesn't hold a candle to being a jockey. (Shelly, my hat's off to you!) I had a former jock as a patient once, and he told me he'd broken nearly every bone in his body at least once!
