"...without the members staying so they can vote for new leadership - the ship is indeed sunk!"

You'd better man the lifeboats; you can't maintain a viable organization when you run off members who have been faithfully paying their dues for over a quarter of a century.

What does East of the Rockies have to do with it?  It's not like you're going over them in a Conestoga wagon.  The Rocky Mountains are pretty far west - the vast majority of the continental USA is East of the Rockies.

For people living in the heavily populated Northeast, all the states listed before (Iowa, Nevada, Alabama, Texas, Georgia) are quite far away.  It sounds like you're saying if it's "east of the Rockies" it's a short drive for anyone living east of the Rockies.

Keith - you are right and that is the major problem.  But if those members stick around a little longer, and help vote in a new leadership, it can be changed around and saved.  Without members who want (and DO SOMETHING) to bring back our club, it is not possible to save it.

While we are kinda on the topic...can someone tell me the main difference between the two? WDA and UScA? They are both organizations who hold schutzhund trials, have seiger shows and???

I am currently a member of UScA because I had to join when I went for my girl's BH. Never really looked into the main "differences". Both have clubs across the US right?

I am just really confused as to why people choose one over the other?

"I am just really confused as to why people choose one over the other?"

Most people didn't choose one over the other; I think you'll find most people have traditionally been a member of both.

by zdog on 10 March 2010 - 17:03

I didn't chose, I was a member of both and happy.  I'm still happy doing what I've always done, just hainging out with people I like, training dogs and having fun.  I could give to shits what some board says I'm "supposed" to be.

by zdog on 10 March 2010 - 17:03

oh, and where does "east of the rockies" come from?  In terms of distance, maybe east of the mississippi river coudl be used, but the Rockies?  if that's the criteria, i'm using the apalachian mountains, so everything has been in the west :)

by eichenluft on 10 March 2010 - 18:03

I'd say "west of the rockies" emcompasses about 1/4 (or less) of the entire country.

I sure wish they would have on in the MIDWEST.  This East/West is BS, the country is broke down more than that or we would only have two regions.  Each region should get to host on a rotation so it is fair for everyone.

Look at a map of the US, divide it with a line down the middle.   Now, when was the last time a national was held on the side where your left hand is?   Which side of the line saw the last four?  Simple.

A large proportion of USA members live in that left-hand side.  Odd as it may seem, not everyone in USA is in the area bordered by the Mississippi River and the Atlantic Ocean.  :-)  Some of us  from the Western half have made the trek to the other side multiple times for the past four years.   The events were/are supposed to rotate to afford members in different parts of this very large country a more equitable opportunity to participate, whether as spectators or competitors.

And, NO, I did NOT  say ...." it's a short drive for anyone living east of the Rockies."   Tess, I like you, but please don't put words in my mouth.  :- )    I said, quite clearly, and repeatedly, that the event has been held east of the Rockies, in the EASTern half of the country, for the past four years and it is time, and fair, for it to be held in the WESTern half this year.
