actually, I had one of my dogs act simularly when it knew it was me and my scent, but I had on a really creepy Halloween mask. It made the dog insecure in the situation, but at the same time I see the tail wags, then that one rather friendly "whine" and then the backing up, and the return and then the hesitation and indecision on what to do in the situation. Your dog was also in your truck, now that would have definately made my dog act somewhat stronger in the defense mode than if had been in my home where it was more sure of the fact it was me. One time I came flying into the frontroom where 3 of my dogs were and I was dancing and singing my lungs out to Harry Chapin's Salt & Pepper (suddenly to spook them) and they were sleeping and I also got some simular reactions. Kind of a positive yet unsure reaction to an unexpected sudden event.

I think the person using the camera on the dog is either his owner or well known to it but this person has with him either a bird or a small animal or a strange toy which the dog is not familiar with and got a little suspecious and a little defensive with some confusion.

Here is another clip.My friend was nice enough to do the dummy work....I mean decoy.lol He has never done it and wasn't sure what to do. I think he was a bit nervous as he knows my dog and is even afraid to play with him.He doesn't move quick enough and Dar has almost bit him. Question:(in this clip) Do you think my dog would have bit him for real? What do you see in his posture, bark, ears and tail...Oh and I saw Jim's comment about him staying in the car well on the other clip...lol it was cause the way I had him tied.Poor guy could barely move...didn't mean to.This time he was a bit more free but then my friend came and tied it more secure as he was afraid Dar would jump out of the window....and he is right on that.

Edited as this: I saw the clip again and I say the dog avoided the bite and was satisfied with the bark and scaring the helper only.

I thought he was tied. He only moved in small increments.
Lauren, c'mon already- ignore the Duvals of the board and tell us who was partially right and who was way off. Hurry, please. I'm not getting any younger. ;-)

Well Duval if that is what you think then fine.I still didn't see you giving your input about the dogs behavior. I am not going to talk crap about what people say. Again it is a learning video. Sorry if you aren't capable of learning a dogs behavior. It is good to know a dogs bark and body language. Maybe less people would be bit by dogs if they knew how to read them better. I don't know why it is so hard for you to answer the question. Are you afraid you are going to sound like you don't know anything? Maybe if you would shut your yap and read what others say you might learn something. Other people that even stated that they were new at it or not experienced gave it a go and I give them kudos for it. I know my dog...I know his behavior, his faults, his good points and I know what I would rather have him be like. That is why I am posting these clips. TO LEARN and to have educated thread that I was hoping wouldn't be ruined by a troll!!!! Guess there is no such luck with that.
Oh and Red Sable.lol funny on the bird thing...I actually have a Great Horned Owl with me that I am going to be releasing when it gets a bit darker.
ANSWER to the first clip.I think it was Ninja that was dead on.I can't go and check cause I am writing this.
It was only me there...I was videoing and I gave Dar the command to bark as I had his ball in my hand. The part that Dar stopped barking and whinned for those that were able to catch that(it wasn't easy to) and looked intence...he thought I was going to give him his ball....since I didn't he got a bit more pissed off and that is where his bark changed a bit to a growl.( I know someone mentioned that) He wasn't barking at a horse or a bird...it was just me trying to video and make him bark.

Aha-so the looking back and forth friendly, not so sure, was between you and a ball, and not you and another person. He looked a bit like he was watching a tennis match from what I could see, but I could only see bits and pieces.
Have you done much of that with him? Were we right to gather that he was unsure of what he was supposed to be doing and looking to you? That makes sense for why he wasn't getting more serious as the agitator kept on...it was just you. The uncertainty was "what the hell are you doing, Mom?"
