hodie, that could be a good educational opportunity there.  Not breeding their non-papered pet, but if they're 4-H, at least they're pro-animal, and maybe there's something else you could suggest for those kids, either something with you or maybe raising a Seeing Eye puppy...something to educate them.

Stupid is as Stupid Does!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if we are living in a world of in-bred idiotic humans.

Wow!  Just when did the cheese start slipping off their crackers??????

About that 8wo Cocker Spaniel puppy. I hope they looked closely at its tail to make sure the breeder didn't tie anything on that tiny tail as an old-school "docking" - that would explain the "it'll fall off soon" comment.  Hey, it's been done.

Interesting stories all!! I have heard a few of those before. When I was a little girl my aunt also had her female Mini Schnauzer spayed after an accidental mixed litter: Because she's never be able to have a purebred litter again. But that was definitely for the best :-)
I wonder if I would be able to have "pure white" children now after having a child with my Mexican husband ....Hmmmm Bet he'd get upset if I told him I wanted to try a scientific experiment, hehehe...

The cocker puppy didn't have anything tied around it's tail. I checked while it was being groomed, since I was still just tripped out about hearing it lol...

Bet he would, Stacy.

Aside from all the superstition...The sire of the litter (or baby, as the case may be) will determine it's heritage..If both parents are of the same race or species, the offspring will be too, regardless of previous pregnancy.

Can you imagine if that was believed in humans..A couple where the wife has a child already, gets married and the  guy refuses to accept his child, because he believes his wife to still be contaminated from having another man's baby?

Goofy.  I wonder where the old wives tale started.

LOL it is so funny when you use a human rather than a dog. Maybe, just a thought,  that the tale on that one started because dogs were not so often properly contained way back then, so their were different sires in litters?  So even when a bitch was bred with another purebred, there were still fence jumpers out there? Just an idea...

When I was a kid, say 80 years ago, they DID believe that if you got fertilized by one man, another of his kids could crop up later. Of course, that was just teenaged girls talking.

YIKES!!!

Sorry, but the idea of people believing that is just funny....about dogs OR humans! LOL.

It's not like dirt, where seeds can lie dormant for a long period of time before starting to grow.  Of course, in dogs, we all know that there can be multiple sires of a litter.  Maybe it was the bad fences thing that started it, but logic would demand that they look a little further.
