Great story... and a great tribute to what a Shepherd can really do,  what a K9 can do for its department, and what a good handler who is in sync with his dog presents a formidable team. Walk tall you two!!!

Thank you all for the nice words, I really appreciate it.

Boomer is a super dog but,  I'm pretty sure any of the dogs in our unit would have done the same thing.  We have been training this style of tracking pretty hard and it's really paying off for us.  You do so many of these tracks where guys have get away cars staged and it's hard to catch them.  That was my third successful track in the past month, the first we caught two home invasion suspects and recovered the guns and all the evidence.  Todays my day off and I'm going out training my dog, I can't wait to go back to work.

With all the arguments on this site over working versus show, and what constitutes a working dog, all that, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that this is what it's all about:  A driven dog with a dedicated handler, doing what he's been trained to do and doing it well.

Congratulations, Jim, on Boomer's track...

It is the dog's nose that found the bad guys, but it's the man on the other end of the leash who knows how to read him and let him do his job that helps him to achieve his greatest success.  We need a lot more like you and Boomer!

Awesome!

Jim, you have a fantastic gift of telling your story.  I can see it all in my mind the way you describe it, very exciting!!  Our Dogs in Canada magazine has a section about dog hero's, quite often it is a police dog.  You should really write a column in a magazine about your and Boomer's escapades, I think it would be an instant hit!  Maybe you do already, if not you should.

Boomer has a great nose,  and a great handler !  Congrats!

Good Dog K9 Boomer :)  it takes a solid dog to track in those conditions. He is one of the special ones.
Always,

I agree 100% and have unsuccessfully suggested that he write a book. Not only does he have a gift of telling the story, but I have found his writing to be concise, succinct and easy to understand when he writes for educational purposes.

Jim definitely has a talent and patience for dog training, police work, and providing resources through his writing to assist others in training their dogs.

Awesome, awesome, AWESOME!

Had to laugh when your cover guy reminded you not to let Boomer bite him in all the excitement. Cute aside from the action part  of the story.
Keep up the good work!
