Has anyone ever heard that Ivomec also works for fleas?
by Luvmidog on 08 April 2010 - 03:04
Name under Evict.., same as NEMEX
Used it for years..for puppies only......
If you got a puppy wormed with it and it had worms the breeder didnt do his job.
Bitch should have been wormed before bred.
Pups do have worms and Pyrantel Pamoate for pups only
Then use Panacur...Safeguard Goat Wormer at feed store is PAnacur
Pups should not be so wormy you have fill them with meds..
If you have whip worms you have to use stronger, People with deer, cattle etc can come up with Whips. Panacur
Roundworms require Piperazine
Safeguard for Tapes is for pups with tapes and has to be done three days in a row repeated in two weeks as all wormers have to be repeated once before pup goes home.
I do not like Ivemec for pups..unless have a rash
Ivemec is dangerous.
Has to be used by correct dosage. foe anything
4 mos old is young enough to start Ivemec 1% for Heart worms..
No for fleas..too much of it can harm a dog..
Cows have a different percentage with another chemical in Ivemec..
for cattle
Not for use in dogs.

I LOVE THE PUPPY!! THANKS.
Everyone,
Thank you all for your help. I think there are a few people that recommended what I currently do so that is fantastic. I need to go have a sit down with my vet about the price of his meds :-)
Again, thank you for all of the assistance with this!!!!!

And I agree with Prager...Ivomectin for pups isn't good. They need a mild wormer.

In dogs, symptoms of acute toxicity may occur in some dogs at single dosages of 2 mg/kg or less. That is 2/1000 000 (two milionth of a kilogram of Ivermectin per kilogram of weight.) !
Ivermectin is easy to overdose and in pups it is very easy to do. Pups under 6 weeks should not take Ivermectin at all. Ivermectin is a prescription drug and can only be obtained from a veterinarian or by prescription from a veterinarian for a reason. It should never be administered without first consulting your veterinarian. The dose for ivermectin varies from species to species and also depends on the intent of treatment. If overdosed or used too early, then it may cause neurological problems(!!!) in pups and some breeds even as adults (like collies ) may die. Symptoms are dialated pupils and drunken gait, blindness, which can progress to respiratory paralysis and death. Symptoms occur in 12 hr. Lactating bitches will pass the drug on pups via milk. Just be careful.
Ivermectin for older dogs is fine. I, again, would not use it without vet's supervision,...unless you really know what you are doing. It is effective against most common intestinal worms (except tapeworms), most mites, and some lice. Acording to some It is not effective against fleas, ticks, flies, flukes. According to some it is.
Adverse effects in extremely low doses are not of concern in heart worm med even for collies. Ivermectin dose for heart worm prevention is 50X smaller then as a prevention for other parasites.
35% Collies, Shetland sheepdogs, Australian shepherds, and Old English sheepdogs and partial mixes and even some other dogs may be susceptible. It is recommended to run low dose test by vet. Also before use of any form of Ivermectin for what ever reason you need to perform first the microfilaria test. This test tells you if the dog is infected with heart worm. If you use Ivermectin and the dog is infected then it will kill the heart worm and dog probably will get stroke.
If using against mites and such , do not use in combination with Valium or Amitraz (Mitaban) dips or collars. Or the dog may die.
Do not use with Comfortis which is used to treat fleas!
Basic Strongid (Pet Smart) is less dangerous and fine for pups and has wide range of safety. Pups after dewormed by strongid may need to be redone. That does not mean that Strongid does not work!!!!!. Pups are getting re infested easily even if dewormed. Pups get born with roundworms. If you suspect any other worm then get it confirmed by vet by checking a stool sample. Keep in mind that any dewormer is a poison and best it is used in the minimal effective dose!
