Nobody's fooling themselves.  Just about everyone here agrees AKC is doing this for the money, so where do you get that people are fooling themselves?

Will add, though, that a lot of AKC breed clubs are indeed doing things to fight genetic problems.  I don't see non-AKC clubs doing that.

If the AKC wanted to do any thing positive for the breed lets say GSD all they would have to do is say that before they will give registration papers on the dogs they must have a OFA rating in the range of normal. Do you know what that in it,s self would do for the breed very simple easy to enforce but won,t do it because they might lose a couple bucks... the clubs can do nothing with out the organization doing it.

"AKC now has a bunch of business people running it"

It,s always been about the money...

I is not about who and what can go and compete.. it is about every street cross dog being bred with papers signed from AKC.

The breed standars is in a shitter. Panda shepherds have papers and so have all the puddle crosses. Shilo shepherds and king shephers and spotted pink dalmation with horns....

Promleb is somplace else, not in ability to do the job.

I had a mali, Gsd and boxer cross once in EU.. thad dog was geneticaly perfect to do the job.. does not mean I am going to create a new breed. I take the dog, make the best out of hom and that is all.. I am not going to take him and breed him to anything and everything to create a gene pool, and then register the mutts as a rare new breed.. We have plenty old ones we screwed up.

Citations, please?  AKC does not "issue papers" for mixes knowingly.  Once a mixed litter comes to light, even if part of the litter is purebred, the registrations of the mixes are revoked.  DNA does not lie.

Continental Kennel Club (CKC) is a whole 'nother kettle of stinkin' fish.

Shoot your right.. I was thinking about CKC..

Sorry about that..

I ment the lack of requirements for registration of a papered litter with AKC (breed worthiness, titeling, breed surveys..) I eraised that and this came out of it. I need to make sure I read after myself. (plus my roommate keeps talking my ear off... LOL

"I was thinking about CKC.. "

No problem.  Heck, AKC is admitting breeds at warp speed these days.  The Foundation Stock Service people's heads must be spinning:

The desire to compete against   "Mixed Bred dog" or something that is  just a dog?

Not for me. There are some good programs for dogs with Agility or to just compete with Registered dogs with Pedigrees. Those events I would not talk down.

It takes the pride out of competing against a dog of the same Quality you have or better , to show that what I own is better or as good and that my training is good, bad or insufficient.

Competition should always be for betterment of your mind, body and health as well as that same for your German Shepherd dog.

AKC is a money making organization with little backbone to stand for the Right WAY.. " ANY old Way will do " should be their MOTTO>

What good would competing in a club event by an orginazation that is ALL OVER THE PLACE", has no definate Standard, and that  acknowledges  ANYTHING

NOT for the True German Shepherd Owner or Breeder

just an opinion
