Hey Baja, this is a simple message board.  Everyone has an opinion and shares experiences.
My dogs are very durable and tough. I don't get hysterical, and run to a Vet, anytime one of my dogs
gets bloodshot eyes or something similar.

The OP said the dog acts normal. I really doubt the dog will expire due to this incident.
I also highly doubt, that the OP will consider my opinion as Gold, and follow my posts to the letter.
You are already hysterical, and have the poor dog dead, and me accountable for it.
May I suggest 2 millies of Xanax, and a vist to your Vet tomorrow.  The Vets Thrive, due to people
such as yourself.

Abhay, If taking a dog to the vet when he falls 18 feet makes me hysterical, thats OK. If your dogs are tough and durable and you don't want to have them checked out if they fall 18 feet, thats OK. I never said the dog was going to die, if you can't read and understand , Thats OK too. I love my dogs and will protect them as they will me and if 2 Xanax and a vet trip will keep them healthy, thats OK. If my dogs would jump off second story buildings, I wouldn't let them on the roof, and thats just smart.  As ask for ...this is my opinion and will not repost to any more of you off the wall comments!!!

After my daughter smacked her head on concrete last summer, this is was the ER doc told me - closed head injuries are difficult to diagnose unless you do a CT scan to rule out bleeding in the brain.  Years ago, this is why people were told to stay awake for 24 hours in order to monitor consciousness and mental status.  Of course, any internal bleeding is an emergency and needs to be treated immediately, which is why a trip to the ER is recommended.

The difficulty with animals is that the availability of CT scanners and veterinarians to administer that type of test are not widely available, not to mention the expense involved and needing to have a neurosurgeon available to provide treatment.  Having lived in areas where emergency vet clinics were not available I understand not being able to rush to the vet immediately.  Sometimes you just have to watch and wait.  If the dog is behaving normally, I would get a call into your vet as soon as possible to see what they recommend.

Geeno,
Glad to hear your dog appears to be ok.  Not going to the vet after an 18 foot fall and a head injury is completely irresponsible, IMHO.  That's one lucky dog in spite of your lack of appropriate care.

JMO FWIW,

Jim

aunt had a white female jump off a 3 story roof, landed on a concrete slab front fet first,  dog was fine except for a couple broken toenails and a sprained ankle.

my adult male got his head caught on a wire which had somehow came loose from the fence,  I don't know how long he had struggled,  but the next day he met me at the door with bloodshot eyes.  I figure with him thrashing to get loose,  he broke blood vessels in his eyes.  3-4 days later his eyes were back to normal.  freaked me out though! lol.

if the dog is acting normally, I would probably give it a few days.  if he has a tilt to his head,  looses bowel control,  or has a change in behavior,  I would get him checked out.

I've just heard too many stories of dogs jumping 2-3 stories and even higher and being just fine besides some scrapes and bruises.

A jump from that height will throw the brain around when the head hits the ground, remember your physics here.  I would worry about detached retinas, along with neck and spine trama. IMO I would have seen vet. Do you not have vets that come in for emergencies or refered to clinic that is open at night and the weekends?
Always,
Cee
