I don't know who this is and really couldn't watch more than a few seconds.. way to suck the life out of a dog.. who is this? What do they claim as credentials????

by jettasmom on 18 March 2010 - 11:03

Julie Marinez ( Mittelwest) and her daughter. Julie has taught her everything she knows. Very sad to watch indeed.

Many years ago, with one of my first GSD's...I wanted to get involved in training. My girl was a rescue about 9 mon. old. VERY friendly and exhuberant. In my area, this "trainer" (say that VERY loosely) was holding classes. I went to my first training class ever with her. When I walked in, I was told that my dog was unruly, HAD to have a prong collar on. So she strapped a prong on my dog. I stood in my circle of newbies while my dog was desperately trying to get to the other people in the class to say hi. This "Trainer" came and took my dog from me, walked her up to every single person in that class and when my dog tried to approach them and greet them, she corrected her so hard on the prong that she flipped on her back several times. While she corrected her...at the same time, she had her husband (then boyfriend) whip a penny can at my dog hitting her in her feet and hind quarters with the can. My dog came back to me with her tail tucked, afraid to move. Keep in mind, this was my first training class EVER so I didn't know any better or have a clue. I did go to a few classes AND watched this person train children in 4-H with these same brutal methods before I couldn't stomach it anymore...and trust me, it didn't take long. I left those classes in tears and feeling nothing but saddness for my dog. She was such a sweet dog and loved everyone, there was no reason to beat her up for being friendly...or any dog for any reason! A friendly GSD is a blessing! Fortunately, I had the good sense to find alternative training places and went on to much success with my girl and she lived to be 15...without beating her up with collars and cans! I have gone on to Schutzhund titles, OTCH pointed dogs, Top ranked dogs in Obedience and other dog sports...with NO THANKS to my 'foundation' trainer. The only thing I can thank her for is opening my eyes to crappy training and knowing I NEVER want to train or treat my dogs in such a manner. If that's what it would take, I'd never train again.

When I saw this video, I not only got chills and cringed...but it brought tears to my eyes b/c it made me think of my old girl. I knew right away who this person in the video was. So sad to see some things NEVER change. Those poor dogs. I feel so sad for them.

There is probably a reason for the compulsion....the traniners keep the treats for their own dining pleasure.   OH my god, what if I throw a ball and the dog doesnt go and get it....that would mean a 30 foot walk out AND BACK!

The best way would be to put a manneuquin on a segway with a remote.  Ecollar on the dog.  Set in the recliner control the segway with the remote and correct the dog when not in position.  If the dog doesnt understand the exercise....juice it until it figures it out.....thats what they are doing with the pinch.

The only problem would be having two remotes...you could still watch tv but you couldnt eat goodies while triaining.

A terrible way to even think of training a Dog i was just 12 years old when i trained my Pit Puppy, Pic on that thread with my sister holding him in 1952, He used to follow Dad and as soon as Dad turned round to tell him to go home the Young Dog would flatten its self on the pavement head right down front legs forewards Back Legs stretched right back as if he was invisible, It was a picture to see him do it
I taught the Pup to do that when i was 12 to 13 years old then,
No Stress on the dog no Forcing him to do it just repetitions over several  months and making it a game, and still today i make all excersises and work a Game for a young Pup such as Izzy.
Plus he walked to heel perfectly, And i was that age then and to see a Video of those poor Dogs and that person being paid to do it makes my blood run cold

i'm no trainer but even I can see that what they are doing is bullying

You mean knee, jerk, pet isn't good training? When I first tried to do flying lead changes on
my mare,  I tried the cowboy way of jerking and spurring and turning, stopping, because I thought
that is just the way it is done. My horse did not respond well at all. Than I watched a very good trainer
show me  how to set her up for the lead changes, and in one day she was doing flying lead
changes beautifully. The AWHA! light went on. I also found out I could train her much faster
than most horses because she was so well bred. She was a natural. So I went back to setting
her up for success, and using correction at the points when it was most needed. My biggest
problem is I love her too much, but rewarding her is not a problem. She is kinda spoiled.

Jon Luc, did you notice that the dogs don't trust the pats? They seem to shy away from the "praise," which makes me think a couple slaps have been delivered in the past. Either that or they KNOW that it's just plain insincere praise. My dogs always know when I'm in a bad mood and faking the praise :)

Jon Juc- What style do you ride? I worked for a reining horse pro and it killed me when i would groom the horses and there was blood running down the sides from the spur...you could see the horse didn't want to work for them...there was no bond,it was just a job and $$ like the dog trianing in this clip. I had to make a post on the you tube...it is just so annoying to see such crappy training..if you want to call it that..and they are making $$ from it,when there are better trainers out there that are actually trainers....that would do 100x better and the dog would be happy.
