Crys too funny!  I've had people tell me that too.

Recently a friend of mine said his vet told him to be selective in his breeding because everytime his male "hooked up" with a female it took a year off the male's life.  I just looked at him and said, "And you believed that?"  He stammered around a little and then said it made sense to him.  So I asked him how many years had he knocked off his life (he has two daughters).  I could see the light dawning then.  I said think about it.  There are stud dogs out there that if this was a true occurance, they would be dead in less than a year.  DUH!  I said it may be hard on a female to be bred over and over but you would have to really work a stud hard to harm him.

Common sense people!  Common sense.

Common sense?  What's that?  Is a common sense what you call a penny, since there are, like, so many of them and, like, whatever?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

What about the "Old wives tale" of letting your female have a litter of puppies prior to spaying So she will be a better dog.

My vet says he hears it all the time.

Many times from owners that were told this by purebred breeders at the time they purchased their puppy.

Stupid is as Stupid does.

Don't keep working dogs in the house, cooking smells will ruin their nose.
Ya right

Always,

Stacy, that's amazing.

One guy told a group of us, that if we fed our dogs gun powder it would make them "meaner", and so more aggressive in work.

I'm glad he spayed her, with that level of knowledge, but I still shake my head about the permanent contamination thing.

Yep, I heard that one too from someone on a dog message board. Maybe it was you reporting this same idiot?

Unbelievable!

I used to think it was an old wives' tale that you should wait until after a bitch's first heat before spaying, but having seen how dramatically my bitch changed following her first heat, that's one I now firmly believe is true. She just...well....BLOSSOMED! Her appetite dropped to about half what it had been, and she totally lost the puppy look. She started to act more mature, too. I could leave her out of the crate unsupervised, and still find the house in one piece when I got home!

I was walking my female GSD (sable working line, see avatar) and this guy rudely stopped me.  He asked if my dog was female? - yes. Was she papered? - yes.  Intact? - No (she was spayed at 3 years old, I got her from a breeder).  Then he "tsk tsk'd" me for having a "papered" female spayed and that he would have suggested we breed her to his "100+ lb black German Sheph- I mean Belgian sheepdog."  I just kept walking.....

I also got this weird message once, no idea how I got it since the *only* phone I have is a work-issued phone and I don't advertise the number (I use my husband's cell).  It was a guy leaving me a VM from this guy because his bitch just came into heat and he up and decided to breed her right then and there and did I know of any stud dogs in our area?  I contact him back, gave a list of several stud dogs I like, many of which are in Germany, titled, koer'd dogs, assuming his bitch has her title, hip rating, brucellosis neg, etc.  Yeah, never heard back from that guy!!

I might have mentioned it before, but I'd heard that from many other people before I heard it from this guy.

I would have preferred to wait to spay Oakley until after she'd matured, but being a rescue, Steph couldn't take that chance.  Just the same, though, it's a hoot that some people really believe some of those things!

I do know someone who stupidly let a seven month old giant Malamute bitch get bred...Didn't think she could get pregnant running free outside 24 hours a day...I can tell you that aside from losing two thirds of the litter, she didn't change one bit!  My temperament towards her owner did, though!  She's spayed now, Thank God, but I wonder what kind of damage might have been done to her body for that bit of ignorance.

The breeder of this huge dog told him that he should bring her back to be bred when she was old enough...Interesting that so many "breeders" suggest such.  Are they planning on raising and selling the resulting litter, or what?  Or do they think that the fool that bought the dog in the first place is capable of properly raising and placing a litter?

Regardless...One wishes there were a lot more common sense to be found in this world> :-)

I have to say that reading all this and what i just saw of someone that is in Phoenix and breeds "Panda Shepherds" makes me cringe!!!! I just saw someone on a FB group that has "German Shepherds" Yea...maybe so but they aren't of good quality and they aren't close to any standard. She also has a 5wk old Wolf GSD mix.WHY would a breeder let a pup go at 5weeks? Are you kidding me? As far as it looks....I don't see the wolf in it but then again it is just a pup.To me it looks husky/collie. The GSDs that she has range from Panda, White,Black, and tan and sliver.Oh and the puppy of the Panda...is the "ONLY" blue/tan/white Panda in the world!!! I had read a post that she put up and of course I had to comment...She asked if the one dog she had that was blk/red(never saw it in her photos) was "show" quality. Hmmm with the looks of the others she has....I would have to say not. I told her to post it and I would have no problem telling her what I thought!! I understand that there are people out there that want a pet, that is fine but don't go breeding it cause it is cute...or rare one of a kind  not recognizable color!!!  I understand now why some people go postal!!!  The stupidity is over whelming.

This is an email I just received today. I cannot post my response here....but you will certainly understand why.......

"Hi,
I am looking for a male German Shepherd to breed with my non-papered German Shepherd. Any possibility? It would be very convienant as we live on Stage Stop – we’re neighbors!
We think it would be a great 4-H project for our kids.
Our female is very sweet and pretty. She is in heat now. She is not a very large dog weighing at about 63 pounds.
I realize you specialize and pride yourself in your breeding but would really appreciate your consideration.
Thanks"

What in the hell is wrong with people? BS!!
