Somehow I'm thinking that was not the first time that dog had done that excercise and yes a white handlers jacket! . I have to feel like there are dogs with a more sophisticated sense of situational awarenesss that they don't bite the handler the helper in that case was blatantly obvious by virtue of the stuff in his hands not to mention the bite suit . If all dogs did that everyone would be bit up all the time! No one would want a personal protection dog thats for sure! A lot of dominant dogs will attack what they percieve to be the aggressor not the victim don't you think? They do it to other dogs all the time two males seemingly fine until one bows up for some reason at which point the other attacks, dominance posturing triggers the attack

That is kinda scary. Wouldn't want to lose a fight to a perp, or your dog would join in and help him!
I had a dominant dog that definitely attacked the aggressor. The dog I have now I think would join in and attack me if I was down.

You do see it in police work. But, you train for it, before it happens. Dont set yourself up to fail. If you have any question about how your dog will respond train in a control situation. Don't let it happen train so it does not. The only timeI have seen this is when the handler has done its own bite work. The dog gets confused who to target.

Malis are very visual dogs so when faced with a helper standing still and a handler jumping about, no wonder the dog grabbed him, he even looked to the helper for a cue when the handler first outed him and the guy was still not moving, but the handler was dancing like he was at a disco and a very tempting target.
