Does the Government have that many cadaver dogs? in the Sandy Anderson case she flew all over and freelanced for all kinds of departments even Foriegn Governments . I'm not  sure saying something is valid because the Government spends lots of money on it i.e Patriot missiles in Iraq

I find the dogs to be extremely reliable;  it's the handler that I worry about.

'if these dogs were unreliable governments wouldnt invest thousands upon thousands to train these dogs'
oh yeah, governments would never invest money unwisely LOL

I do know cadaver dogs to be very reliable, where I live new foundlands are used and trained.  when we have a car go in the river or a drowning they use them because they can scent the  bodies even if they are submerged in the water.  the dogs are taken out in the boats and even through the water they can usually pinpoint it.
it is interesting to watch.  but I am also told that the dogs used in this kind of work  can suffer from depression after so many years.  the sad part of the story the dogs had to be used to locate his own trainer/owner after he dove in to save one of his dogs during a training session who got caught in an under current , the dog made it out out and the owner didnt

dead bodies stink - baaad - at least while they are decaying.  I would be surprised if a dog couldn't find a decaying body.

BTW, Ironside - I once attended a horticultural gathering where Raymond Burr was a speaker - an orchid grower, he attended with his male partner.  Oh my!  It was well before it was really socially acceptable, LOL!

Good morning and thank you for all your replies. 'Prcabulrid' I am not an idiot but believe that there are people who try to discredit the dogs for their own agenda.

Let me go a little deeper into this case which has now been shelved until new evidence.I will do so without straying too far from the dogs.

I came upon this forum while searching for Cadaver Dogs,,,and read the Anthony case which reminded me of another. The dogs hit on the apartment  and like the Anthony case those close to the family have a reason why cadaver scent was found in the trunk of the car..Anthony case...weeks old pizza and two dead squirrels.......The other case Cadaver scent found in the boot...parents say comes from dirty nappies ..rotting meat and spilt fish. A witness said she saw the trunk of this car left open every night.

Cadaver found on the mothers clothing is reported to be from 6 dead bodies she had handled during work. This parent is a GP who worked 1 and 1/2 days per week. Cadaver found on the childs toy. Mother reported to have taken this to work .

I have my opinion of the dogs findings and if the police told me that cadaver scent had been found and my child was missing I would have a very different reaction to those above.
The father has even gone so far as to say that he would not be surprised if Police planted evidence in the car. One more interesting point the car was hired after the child disappeared. Police think the parents moved the remains of the child later to a safer hiding place.
Sadly there was not enough forensic to back up the dogs findings. Therefore the parents were not charged and the child is still missing.

However,....Absence of evidence is not Evidence of absence,

I still believe the dogs.

If only handlers would listen to their dogs.  I have seen dogs with great potential trained so poorly that the trainers should be shot, I have seen great trainers trying to train a handler that should be shot (the handler not the trainer).  Then there are those dogs that would make good pets but have no working ability. The correct mix of great dog, great trainer, and great handler is a beautiful thing to witness.  As a side note, most great trainers and handlers that I have had the pleasure of working with have a very common trait, they check their ego at the door (I always bring a large plastic can with the sign "deposit ego here, then LEAVE IT" to the training area).

Good morning Mindhunt, this case was very high profile and the dogs were recorded or maybe all are at crime scenes , this I do not know. The footage was released along with the police files to the public.  Martin Grimes lets his dogs do their work . Martin is a very quietly spoken man ,who explained during the video footage the training of his dogs. We are able to watch their reaction and how they react on finding the scent they have been trained for.  There were ten cars involved in this case and the dog only reacted to the car hired by the parents.

Thank you once again for your information.

Have you tried videotaping the dogs' reaction to those other things the parents claim triggered the reaction?  Dirty nappies, dead squirrels, etc?  (Aren't cadaver dogs supposed to tell the difference between human remains and animal remains?)
