Keep an eye on the coat, and the stools,.. I feed my younger dog nutra source and her coat is pretty nice but I work in some supplements in food and also as training rewards in tracking...(sardines, beef, etc)

Uglydog
overall it looks to be a decent food, I wish i could pay what you Guys do over here for Dog Kibble,
R.C would cost me 93 USA dollars a bag, much the same that i am feeding the dogs on now average 100 USA dollars a bag
Keeping a dog over here on a decent kibble is costing as much or more than it costs to feed me
But then where would we be without them, Me i guess i would be a miserable old Guy who would be lost without them
Merry Christmas to you and your Dog

Hmmm, I have yet to fiqure this one out! I feed my dogs just about anything, raw, kibble, table scraps, cottage cheese, shrimp fried rice, cream of wheat....see where I'm going. My dogs have no stool issues and there coats are fine. They are a little restless because of the snow but otherwise excellent health. I have never bought into this whole dog food crap!

The corn crop in the U.S> this year was bad and has been exposed to alot of mold. I would not feed anything with corn in it. I lost a rott to the Diamond corn years ago on the mold issue, liver failure. I try and read the crop reports, since they will be putting that junk in the food for the dogs and then I know what to stay away from for that year.

Thanks for the Replies, keep it coming if you have more info.

This seems like a fine food for the offseason or as a filler.

Merry CHRIST Mass to all of you, and very Happy 2010 as well.
Peace +

How to Feed Your Dog Quality Food on a Budget-

Buy the dogs TOTW.
YOU eat a lot of rice, popcorn, stale bread and margarine.
Therein lies the savings.

Got menadione in it  No thanks....Sams   dog food has menadione in it   too much and no reason to have it...

Our club in Houston did a study on the menadione stuff and  most dog foods have taken it out....Royal canini had it in for a while and breeders raised cane and they took it out...

So my first two dogs fed plain old nutro max lived to be 14 and 15 and were in good shape until the end. A BYB AM lines GSD and an ESS.  Next GSD was Amlines who died at 1 year from kidney failure but I think he was genetically flawed. He was between Am lines GSD and the ESS in sequencing and both of those dogs lived decent lives.

So I got "educated" and fed my next dog quality food and, for about half his life, a quality raw diet.  He lived to be 11 - died of hemangiosarcoma. Too young if you ask me. He did, however, have horrible allergy issues and was neutered as a bilateral cryptorchid at 2 whose little nubbins never developed....He was Czech x W German Showlins

My next dog was raised from raw as a puppy - she developed severe HD - she was west german working lines. She is 7. Still doing ok though

My next dog, I got as y oung adult [because I quit working the dysplastic dog and kept her as a pet] Complete Czech zPS lines. He could apparently live on rocks and be ok. He is 7.

Both current dogs eat  TOTW, having formerly eaten EVO but they are getting older and protein levels a bit high in the blood - did not want to rock the boat. TOTW still fairly high in protein. Will do urine testing in a few months.  But wondering if it would have just made more sense to feed the old Nutro......?

----------------------

Dogs live, what,  14-15 years. Much more important that I eat the good quality food than they and live 80-90 or more in good health. How many folks break the budget on dog food and eat crap?

I feed Kirkland.  Last time I took the dogs for their innoculations, the vet was amazed at the great condition of the dogs and their beautiful coats.

Before I was sohisticated enough to read or care about the dog food labels, I fed my pets nothing but big bagged bargin food - usually Purina Dog Chow - I can't say it harmed the dogs - they all lived healthy long lives.  My conscience won't let me buy that now, when there's a better alternative.

I can't find any legitimate information on menadione toxicity from feeding menadione enhanced foods.  In fact, from my reading, toxicity occurs when menadione is injected....
