I'm not disputing that American Staffordshires can do the work VomMarischal -- they're super dogs, smart, loyal, and very caring with people. But non shedding? Surely they shed -- just less than certain other breeds I could name. :D
And beautiful pups Mirasmom, even if they were an accident! I think it's Norway where they're doing a lot of experimental breeding to produce service dogs -- I know it was a translated Norwegian veterinary journal where I saw the paper about the Labrador/Golden Retriever crosses (specifically bred from good service dogs, to produce more good service dogs).

Their little hairs are like eyelashes! They shed, but they shed little teensy things, and NO tufts! I'm sorry, but that doesn't count as shedding when I have four GSDs in the house...now THAT is shedding!

Heh.
Someone who has a problem with AmStaff hair might feel differently! ;) That's the thing though -- allergies are fairly unique to the sufferer. For some people it's hair, for others dander, or saliva. Some people can be highly allergic to one animal, and not at all to another of the same breed. Others are just allergic period. It's not a bad idea at all to produce a hypoallergenic breed for service, but doing it is a challenge!

Jackal, your post to alf, nice post. Totally agree.
VM,
The AMstaff sheds! It's those little tiny hairs and you can't get them out of anything! They stick like glue! Just like Boxers, Dobies, Danes, Dalmations....the list goes on. But unlike Shepherd hair they don't make rolling hair balls across your floor.
