M. He was the Best of The Best unbelievable Social Skills, tolerance, protection and always knew when to Go, Stay or to Come. Always waiting when you came home lived in house with 2 other males without problems. Just a wonderful Companion Dog. When he was in a vehicle Police used to ask me does he do Bite Work ? I used to tell them yes when I ask him to. VB

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure you gave him a nice life while he was with you. He was lucky to have you as an owner, as I'm sure you were lucky to have him as a friend and companion. 13 is a nice old age for a GSD.
Write down some good memories of him and some funny stories. This way you can go back and remember the fun you two had.

VB,
Looks and sounds like he was a great dog. I know all of us here know the pain of loosing a good friend and canine companion. Whenever I loose a dog, I try to grieve in my own time, and when I feel ready, I sit down and write a letter to my lost companion. I have done this for every dog I ever loved. I try to remember all the good things and good times I had with the dog and try to express why I loved the dog. I don't know if it would be useful for you or not, but I found that it helps. Later, sometimes years later, I can go back and read what I wrote and even sometimes smile through my tears.
Another thing that does help, which I am sure you already know, is to have another dog to spend time with. IF you need a dog, let me know. I have several I am willing to give to you who would make good companions.
I know the holidays will be difficult thinking of your lost pal, but you will find a way.
best wishes.
