Julia, You crack me up!! :-) I nearly choked laughing, as it is a reference I used just the day before in a telephone conversation. ¶ For anyone puzzled, the reference is from "A Streetcar Named Desire," by Tennessee Williams, and is the famous line delivered by the character Blanche Devereaux (not absolutely sure of the surname): " I have always relied upon the kindness of strangers." Boarding in the Seattle area is $25/day for no frills. "Pet hotels" with fancy stuff (radiant heat floors, indoor/outdooe runs, TVs, etc) run $35 and up for large dogs. Extra for administration of meds, treats, play time. I happen to know that charges are very similar in Vancouver, B.C., so there are parts of Canada where $20+ a day is the norm, too.

Show dog breeders? Molly's known for breeding show dogs? GSDSRULE, what, you just bash show dog breeders just because? So you take someone who is known for her working dogs, but heaven forbid you bash a working dog breeder, so you just decide to call her a show dog breeder because that's who you like to bash? Working dog breeders don't ever breed to make money? Do you actually believe that??? Oy, are you naive!!!

I don't know any of you people, I have looked at links that have been posted.  When I say "show breeders", I mean anyone that exhibits dogs and breeds.  Sch.  looks like a show to me.  I have seen many here bemoaning the sad state of the "judging" etc.  I think most of you breeders make money, I never bought that line that you don't make money off numerous $1500 pups.  And I am pulling $1500 out as a reasonable middleground of what I have seen advertised.

$18/day for large-breed dog is the cheapest rate around here - all of the other kennels run $20 - $25/day not including meds, exercise, and other "frills" that I don't charge extra for.  And this is in the country - cities are FAR more.
