"never considered it that way."

lots of ppl do not consider this aspect of dogs and mainly do concentrate on vigorousness of the drives.
and that's sad trend, which led to present state of GSD breed with overwhelming amount brainless and never maturing but energetic to absurdity dogs.

hi Ron, and welcome to PDB.

The steps look good and pretty easy to follow. I leave the training advice to more experienced people.

I would suggest that things are not always as simple and straight forward as they may seem. to me, doing a video on retrieve, using a breed that has for generations been bred to retrieve to hand, the hardest part is probably making and editing the video.

I had a Bouvier, absolutely no interest in ball play, chase or retrieve. toss a ball, he just stood looking like "you tossed it, you go get it".

it would be interesting to hear if people have dealt with varying degrees of this issue.

thanks for the video, I enjoyed it,

Rik, I talk a lot about how my dog is very sensitive to the handler and how I am able to train him in basic things without ever putting a flat collar on him, certainly never a choker, prong or E collar, HOWEVER, I am not delusional, I know for a FACT that he will need compulsion if and when the time comes for proofing.
So will 98% of the dogs in the world and it makes me shake my head when I see videos like this or talk to "experts" who have trained 6 dogs and have never had a need for a physical correction.

Anyone who wants real world, dependable training on a dog to function in that real world will need to apply that compulsion/pressure on their dog because whatever treat you have in your hand is not going to be enough to stop that dog from running after a squirrel across a 6 lane highway, not even my very handler sensitive, very tractable dog who lives to be up my ass.
Also, I am not willing to debate this with anyone who wants to come in here and start, I did it for many years and I learned that there is no getting through to some people.
