In the video, he's been with us for 2 1/2 days. We're using sit in the video but what we're really working on is teaching him a system where getting what he wants is based on his behavior--do what I want him to do & he gets what he wants. Every command is taught this way throughout his whole life.

Where is the praise other than your voice?

by gsdpartisan on 11 October 2012 - 21:10
I'm making a barely audible sound with my voice which means "you're doing the right thing, keep it up & you'll get your reward as soon as I release you with OK". The sound is called an "intermediate bridge" & is a very effective means of communication during training. Look at how Chuck (we were going to call him Crockett but changed our mind) is listening for further information :)

but again where is his reward, either food, a toy or just a pat on the head. eventually he will become bored with too many repititions so you may want to mix it up a bit. keep his tail wagging, so he is a happy worker!

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't understand the question until I rewatched the video. Of course he is working for food. I cut the video after I released him but before I fed him. I don't reward until after the release & then I make a big deal out of it. I never reward (feed or play with) a dog until after the release.
