I am a working line person and not overly experienced with show lines. Critiques would be most welcome and I have thick skin, so feel free to be blunt. What are your thoughts on this female? She is 10 month old. I worry that she is borderline of being masculine. How will judges rate her if she continues to mature into a masculine female? Don't get me wrong, I love the look ... just curious about what judges will penalize her for. She is in heat and out of coat in these pics (taken today).

Please forgive the stack. This was her first stack and she was quite fidgety. This was the best pic out of about 50.

Hopefully Rik will be around to give a good critique on this girl... I like her looks, but will let the more experience in conformation folks give opinions. I am also a WL person.

Thank you :-)

Here are two better shots of her head. Also, I noticed the VA1 bitch at NASS had a good bit of masculinity to her, so I guess I shouldn't worry about that issue.

Black and Tan GSD female of good type, more than medium size and strong, could be more dry especially in the neck area, notable substance. Correct proportions; height to length and leg to chest depth. Nice head and ear carriage, ears point outwards a bit. Nice medium dark mask and eye. Good strong neck of sufficient length, notable high withers of good length, Good length of a strong straight back which is slightly sloping (though it looks a bit exaggerated in the stack), good lay of croup but a bit short, good tail, tailset looks a bit high (not very sure about it). Deep hind angulation, good proportions of bones, watch please if she could stand her hock perpendicular to the floor. Underline could be better (maybe she gave birth earlier !!), very good front angulation and fore chest development, nice front upper arm and good angle, though she could still use some more of it, very good shoulder blade lay, nice chest depth, in the picture (and it could be due to the floor where her feet stand) she is not clean in the front, also her pasterns lool like they lack sufficient angle and feet look flat. Beautiful Girl indeed, notable substance and front upper arm, I would love to see her stand hock perpendicular.

Sorry for my ignorant remark regarding giving birth, I miss read her age, sorry for that. Ibrahim

I WANT HER!
The only thing I see wrong it her croup is a bit short.

Please post her pedigree.

Can't see why you are worried about her looking too masculine;  I think she
is really pretty  (and reasonably well constructed, as per  Ibrahim & Sitasmom
have said).

She is a massive boned female with a pretty face.........lots of substance......lots of shoulder, wither and forearm......needs to learn how to gait...

Thank you all! Ibrahim, I need to get better pics, but she actually has good feet. The pics don't do them justice. When you say she is not clean in the front, what do you mean by this? I am not familiar with the term. She is straight and not east/west, but I assume this term is not referring to east/west? Thanks

I will work on better pics. She does not know how to gait or stack. Yesterday was her first try with both. That is something we will remedy. She was already better today. She stacked up and stayed still for about 5 seconds, which was an improvement.

I appreciate everyone's input. My goal is to start showing her. She knows nothing, though, and needs to be conditioned and trained.

Also, I am wrong on her age. She is 9 months.

by Ibrahim on 22 October 2012 - 21:10

If she stands straight, toes and legs straight then she's said to be clean in the front. If you have a close look at where her feet stand there is a rise in the ground which might be causing her front feet to look lying flat and pasterns straighter than should be. Also her front left leg is turned to the out, most probably she's not at her nature due to the floor bed. As SitasMom and Hundmutter said she's very good in conformation, if her front in fact is clean then she's close to perfect other than her slightly short croup, SitasMom knows better than me in regards to gait teaching techniques, maybe if necessary she can elaborate on that. SHE'S BEAUTIFUL.
