A Tribute for my AMERICAN HERO'S
Americans in strength unite
This union born ...in freedom’s light
United States, how sure we are
We’ll pull together, near and far
The world can see of what we’re made
Each state is of the highest grade
Determination, filled with pride
Our people’s will won’t be denied
Our founding fathers set to stay
The road we’ve traveled to this day
A quest for right cannot be wrong
With help from God, we will stay strong
Support our troops ranks number one
For the job they do is never done
When forced they put it on the line
True patriots, when called they shine
Let’s raise Old Glory with a cheer
And thank all soldiers, past and here
My AMERICAN HERO'S
Jack Christopher Pickering, Staff Sergant (E6), Army Ranger, United States Army

Jack Boyd Pickering, Retired United States Marines, United States Navy, United States Air Force

The song goes, all my heroes are cowboys.
Well, all my heroes are Veterans:
US ARMY 2LT J. Pahler. A man of principle, honor and dignity. I was privileged to give him his first salute as a Commissioned Officer, and am proud to call him my best friend, and my hero. He accepted his Commission just a week prior to reaching the age limit to become an Officer.
US ARMY CW3 D. Dunning. No one in my family supported my time in the Military more than my grandfather.
US ARMY CW2 G. Dunning. My grandmother led the way for women in the Military, serving in the Woman's Army Corps, and later as a Commander of a Field Artillery Battalion when the Army intigrated women. I carry her Commander's coin with pride, to this very day. RIP Grandma.
US ARMY CSM J. Howard. I never met my Grandfather James, but I apparently inhereted both his temper, and his love of the Army NCO Corps. RIP Grandpa.
US ARMY MSG K. Howard. Of course my dad is my hero. I wouldn't have it any other way. RIP Dad.
US ARMY SGT T. Myracle. My husband, RIP, and my hero. If I had ever doubted the quality of his Military service, the people who pulled their dusty uniforms out of the closet and came to his funeral to show their final respects proved how much he had earned.
US ARMY SGT J. Myracle. He overcame near impossible barriers to serve in Iraq twice, and I am proud to call him my stepson.
US ARMY SGT D. Woodley. The NCO who taught me how to lead from the front, and inspire troops to follow close behind. I never saw him lose his military bearing, even when falsely accused. He kept me sane, and laughing, in Iraq.
US ARMY PFC S. Myracle. My youngest stepson, who may not have been the model Soldier, but still served with pride and honor, spending a cumulative 5 years in Iraq.
US MARINE CORPS LCPL E. Finklein. It may have been the "Forgotten War, but I will never forget my grandfather's service. I've always looked up to my Grandpa Ed more than nearly anyone else in the family, long before I learned he fought in the Korean War [something I wasn't told until I was on the way to Iraq myself.]
US MARINE CORPS LCPL A. Howard. My baby brother, who was determined to buck the tradition and be only the second person in the history of the family to join a branch other than the US Army. We forgive him his shortcomings, and love him anyway. He is serving in Japan right now, and I miss him terribly.
US ARMY PV2 K. Howard. KIA, Vietnam. I never met my Uncle Kenneth, but his service was in keeping with the highest traditions of our family, and his sacrifice is not forgotten. RIP Uncle Kenneth.

My uncle, my brothers, all Navy men. Thanks Uncle Bob (deceased)! Guy & Colin Fowler, my brothers....whose sacrifice to their country involved 12 long years of grueling service stationed in Hawai'i during peace-time! LOL! All kidding aside, I am grateful for & proud of their service to their country. Happy 4th Servicemen & servicewomen everywhere! jackie harris
