A lot of obedience ( agility is growing faster ) over here, but mostly within DVG, SV members tend to stick with IPO, although for a couple of years now on the SV Bundessiegerprüfung there is the National Agility trial, too

They decide between "normal" obedience and "ralleye", and there are different classes (beginner, class 1, 2, 3 )

Maybe I should care a littlebit more...

Know what you mean about atmosphere, Blitzen -  the 'competitive spirit'

gone to extremes !  Some people get far too wound up about it - can't be

good for their dogs.  It was happening when I was actively doing Ob., it

was reported to me as around when my work colleague was doing it later,

in the 'Noughties,  and she did Agility also - same there.  Not everybody,

but enough to take the edge off what should be an enjoyable hobby.

Clearly it isn't getting any better.

Linda, the handler of the black GSD had a total meltdown at the GSDCA national when the dog sat up during the out of sight long down. She literally sobbed for hours and hours. Nice working dog, but now all anyone remembers is that perfrormance. I heard it at least 3 times at the Eukanuba - look, there she is, that woman who went ballistic at the National when her dog blew the long down.

All the competition for highest scores doesn't compute with me. I just want the green qualifying ribbon. I've never even stayed for my score sheet, didn't care where I lost points with my dog.

She cried for hours ?  Phew !  Yeah, sure everyone else will always remember

her for that bout of histrionics - either it is unneccessary grandstanding or she

really feels it that deeply, can't be any good for her, let alone the dog.

Your own attitude sounds much healthier, though I beg to differ about waiting

for scoresheets, they can help with developing your training of the (or any) dog

if you have it confirmed what s/he & you lost points on.  Doesn't have to be about

getting the high places.
