Greetings to all. I am thinking about maybe getting a prong collar and just thought Id ask fellow UKer's what their thoughts on them are. I have heard that they are banned but I dont know if this is in fact true. I would be very thankful if people can give me some advice on this as its something Im seriously thinking about using. Jan

Jan, I am not in the UK so don't know the situation there, (but I am British). I have attended 2 training courses with an Argentinian and a Spanish instructor and they both said about prong collars - they are banned but everyone uses them- I also have some Leerburg training videos and notice that prong collars are nearly always used, though the use is not explained in the videos. In the opinions of both instructors the careful use of a prong collar is much more effective and less harmful to the dog than yanking a choke collar which is much slower and has to be done much harder to have any effect. When a prong collar is on most of the time it is not used at all, but for a quick sudden correction, the dog does not know that the correction comes from the handler, and doing it correctly the correction is short and instananeous. I believe that in the UK only experienced trainers can purchase them?
