I loved your slide shows of Trick on your blog, and the song was a perfect one. Watched it twice. You are lucky to have such a memorial to him. What happened that you were forced to lose him at such a young age? I am going to get a video camera so I can record my dogs' lives a little, before it's too late and hindsight is nothing but regret. Again, so sorry for your loss.

4pack I am so sorry. I know where you go, getting so lost in his passing. All I can ad is you have given the most unselfish gift for your failing friend a person can. Some day your paths will cross again. Trick will always be with you and he knows how lucky he was to have found you.

4 Pack , very sorry for the deep pain of your loss. My husband and I had to put down our Chow in early July so my understanding of your pain is fresh in my own mind. I pray God brings you peace in your pain, flooding your heart with all the great memories of your great companion and lessens the pains of the last hours. You will never regret having been there for him til the very last, no one else's face should be the last he see's but the master who loved him so deeply.

I had to dig to find this, I saved it long ago but I think it's appropriate for you 4Pack. I got this from a friend, don't know if it was actually written by a Vet but the sentiment is very sweet. Your experience at the Vet was SO similar to mine I went right back to the day I took Link in, same emotions, leaving him on the floor. I was crying so bad I could hardly walk. The Vet was even crying, he was so young, not yet 2, my heart still aches. Anyway...
A Dog's Purpose from a 4 year old
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year old
Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa and
their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were
hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family
we couldn't do anything and offered to perform the euthanasia
procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be
good for four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt
as though he might learn something from the experience.
The next day I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's
family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the
last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few
minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to
accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion.
We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud
about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane,
who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next
stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good
life, loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The
four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so
they don't have to stay as long."
