i myself have worked with many crosses and i find most of them to be the best of both worlds. The Quickness and hypertensity of the mal. and the nicer bone and stronger nerve of the shepeherd. (meaning they tend to think things through unlike most mals.)I do love my MAlis' so lets not blow that out of proportion either. IMO
many years ago a lot of the older kennels were outcrrossing to increase the drives of there shepherds for work they would crossout every 6-8 generations so there are good chances there is some good mal blood in both DDR And Czech.

hello Gustov,
I have read a little about the Czech's and or old ddr. dogs being experimentally being bred with wolves but I have not seen documentation on this or how far back it was done. One would have to have lots of time and resources to do something like this and have success. If you have some reading on this subject I would love to read up on it. I would have a ton of questions about this such as did they end up culling or stop a line from continuing because of overwhelming problems. Any resources would be appreciated. This is a fascinating subject to me. thanks

Just look up the "Czechoslavakian Wolfdog" (spelling?) on the internet. From my understanding that is the result of the wolf experiments. They are beautiful dogs (roughly 20% wolf) but have very weak nerves.

thanks amysue, that would have been one of my concerns since wolf's have a natural fear of man. On the other hand one might expect to improve health issues, hips etc. but seems like it would take a zillion years to cull out the problems and come up with something good.

Olskool,
You are right about the time constraints and also the discipline in culling. That's why it could only be successful in programs that are regulated by the state or some type of organizational entity. Not saying I condone, but its like training methods, if done disciplined and knowledgably can achieve an objective.
