Trailrider, How you doing ? have been out ridin at all, I got tossed off a little shetland yesterday !!!! butt is sore. The vet said they were good, but I dont know how to read so I thought I would ask. He just turned two, so I need tp do ofa, just wondering if its a waste of time. Thanks Katie

My only concern about this xray is the slight "cupping" of the upper acetablular rims on both sockets. In other words, the sockets do not surround the entire head; the tips tend to "flare out"rather than conforming tightly. Not sure how else to put it. However I have seen this often on other dogs of other breeds and they have received OFA numbers. Not sure if this is an incidental/acceptable finding for a GSD this age. Louise or D.H. will probably know. If acceptable, then my best guess is an OFA  fair to good. If not acceptable, then either mildly dysplastic or maybe a borderline with the recommendation to re-xray in a year to see if this change has progressed. I would definitely submit this xray to OFA, I don't think it's a waste of time at all.

For the ultimate in tight articulation, the acetabular rims should form "lips" that seem to clasp the femoral heads--no cupping.

Venzosmom, if you could see the xrays side by side on a light box, you could see the difference I'm sure. I'd have him done again for OFA. My gut feeling is he will pass OFA assuming there are no other changes since the first xray. It's a PIA, isn't it?

Nope no riding. To hot, smokey and dry. I am surprised they haven't closed the woods totally! Funny at least you didn't have far to fall off that Shetland. They can be such little brats. My son had a good one when growing up...unless she spooked then she would go to bucking.LOL! But no bite or kick which was good.

Let us know what OFA has to say!

You should send adult xrays to the OFA. The "cupping" is not ideal. However, if there has been no "remodling", the dog should certify.

what is this dogs age and any clinical input??the hips could be tighter and it apprears to be something going on with heads(very slight).these x-rays should pass and my guess is fair.i also would like to see socket seated a little deeper.good luck

Stephenitz, he was close to 11months in these x-rays,the vey said they look good, if they stay that way he should cert.                                               Trailrider, that stinks, i'll send you picture of this pony, what a !itch,my horse is over my friends house for a couple week(working on barn&fence)so I go over to visit, well she just got this pony, 7yrs old, never been ridden, so Im the smallest of the group, so she asks me to get on, of course I do( im 5'4"& 98lbs)she good for about 2.2 seconds, starts bucking&rearing, doing quick turns all 4 feet off the ground, i was ok for a few minutes, then she started running toward fence buckin, i ditched& landed on my butt&back. It was very fun for everyone watching!!!
