Took me a while to write this down, because most people won´t understand the importance of this change of rules, maybe even nobody including the majority of Germans even cares ...

I told you about the "mandatory" temperament test, now finally called " ZAP1 ", last year, as I already guessed this test now becomes a rule for every dog born after June 2017...

IPO will not be mandatory in the future ( 2018 ??? ) prior to breeding any more, there will be a " ZAP2 " = kind of " IPO light "; SV is still working out the final rules ( ZAP2 will still involve tracking, obedience, bitework, but less difficult than IPO1 ).

This means that in the near future you will be able to breed with HD/ED/DNA/ZAP1/ZAP2/show rating/breed survey, no more IPO necessary, only for the VA dogs ( for those few IPO2 at least ).

All of this for the sake of WUSV, and for the sake of the amount of German puppies bred - quantity more important than quality - instead of insisting on our rules lowering them for the sake of the rest of the world.

I told you we are following you - we are on the highway already ... guess, there will be no "German" revolution... the easier = the better...too much international money involved...

Only for the record, in case no miracle happens:

ZAP1 + ZAP2 + breed survey = breed worthy
or
ZAP1 + IPO + breed survey = breed worthy

I don´t need to be a hellsayer to say that the breed survey will change sooner or later, too....

It´s time to welcome the GSD breed in the already existing pet dog world of Dobermann, Boxer, Rottweiler, Schnauzer, and all the other "ex" working dog breeds...

I think strong breeders will still breed strong genetics, and weak breeders will be nothing new....shrug!

Gustav, right on!

Susie, just where is the pressure coming from ? Not denying influence of US and maybe other markets, but someone within the structure has to be promoting these changes.

RSV is already doing something similar.

So, no more BH?
Wondering how USCA will respond to the rules.
Personally, I did always think that the breed survey (performance part not the physical evaluation) and show performance tests were redundant for a dog that is already properly titled in IPO, but it is fun to work with your dog any opportunity you get.

An image

In this diagram BH is still mandatory for the "IPO" way, but not for the "ZAP" way.

May be a mistake, may be not...right now nobody really knows.

Hundmutter, there are a lot of reasons -

- our breeders and exhibitors are not happy about all the dogs from other countries not forced to follow the rules, they feel discriminated ( time, money )

- even in Germany people don´t want to spend all their free time at the club any more, less rules = faster success

- WUSV tries to find a way to be able to adjust all countries - Germany will lower, the others hopefully will lift them up

- SV lost too many members ( members are important for politics - the amount of members is the only reason why we are still allowed to train IPO at all, and why the GSD is not on the "dangerous dog list" yet

- "official" reason: It´s better to "temperament test" a dog than to only look at the trained result (IPO)

Doesn´t make sense, because from now on people will train for the "temperament test"...

Is there a description of the ZAP tests somewhere?

You can find the ZAP1 on the SV homepage - it was introduced as " Wesenstest " last year - there is a video online.
ZAP2 doesn´t have final rules yet, but it will be kind of "IPO light", some nosework, some obedience, some bitework - way less pressure ( a short track, no dumbell?, no attack? ) - I am not able to find much yet.

The major difference will be that the ZAP is more about the temperament, and less about points ?!?

The idea in itself is not bad, but a lot of dogs are able to perform well without pressure involved...
