Is a "plush coat" the thicker wavy coat? And how does that effect a dog in the show ring? Or does it? And when someone says "coated" pup for sale,,exactly what does that mean?

by Het on 22 June 2005 - 14:06

Plush coat, is a longer coat that is accepted in show and breeding...it sometimes can be wavey but I have seen some that are not...I think that most of the show dogs have a Plush coat. Stock coat is a very short coat and I have seen this more on working lines. Medium coat is inbetween the plush and stock. Coated is a dog that has real long hair all over the body and extremely long hair in the ears and between the toes, and the fluff on the hind end. And they can't be bred or shown. Hope that helps Heather

They can be bred, just isn't recommended. As many don't like coats. I am not against them, they are just as great as their siblings of non coat, and sometime prettier.

Thanks Heather..that does help..

They can be bred here in the states but in Germany they are not bred, that was what I ment. Heather

So what the heck is a "stock coated" pup? Can there be such a thing..short hair everywhere but on the hind end?

by Brandoggy on 23 June 2005 - 09:06

sorry I meant "long stock coated"..what would that be? Anyone, anyone?

by Het on 23 June 2005 - 22:06

I don't know what that would mean...I think people use differnt terms so that they sell better. really that is contradicting....stock coat is a short coat, so how could you hve a long, short coat..lol Even dogs with these coats will still have the fluff on the back thigh and longer hair on the belly....so that is still a stock coat just sellers wording. long stock coat has an undercoat. which is the shorter(stock)hair, underneath the longer hair. go to haus barrett in Germany (i believe) he breeds, shows, and titles his dogs. there is a separate club for the long coated german shepherd.they are awarded conformation titles like normal coats i have a long stock coat out of yasko v Farbenspiel. almost all of the show lines have the ressesive gene for the long coat. i said "almost all" Harley
