For those with experience in taking photographs, what is the best time of day in what seasons to take flattering outdoor photographs/portraits of dogs. I live in Pennsylvania if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance, Melanie

Depends! If you live in eastern pennsylvania best time to take photo is from 11:23 to 11:48 AM, and if you are in western pennsylvania from 11:43 to 12:04! Regards

of course the best is in summer - the best light, and green grass!

No, No, the best in in winter - the best light, and lots of snow. The dog stands out and really makes to color show strong.

The best time is that than you want to make foto :). Us flash and reflector in sunny day for disposal of a sharp shadow. D20 is a good box but it is nothin without a good lens. I recommend "white" lens from CANNON. you can find same of my works follow this link http://www.gsd-online.ru/paul/foto.htm I hope that you will take pleasure in process of shooting :)))))

Since you have the 20D, you should be able to use the white balance settings to adjust for different lighting. In general, early to mid afternoon is best. An overcast day is good. What you want to avoid is lighting that gives hard shadows. Shadows destroy detail in your photographs (at least for the purposes we are discussing). Snow will also cause some issues with digital. Overexposed images are very hard if not impossible to fix in photoshop. So if you take your pictures in a snow setting, definitely make use of your white balance feature so that you retain detail and the highlights don't blow out your images.
