Hi,

One of our pups is not doing so great after his second vacs and deworming (I waited 36 hours after vacs to deworm) and not keeping food down and only has semi solid stools. Want to put him on a chicken and rice diet for a day or two (while I wait for magical canned pumpkin which you can't get in the UK!!) and wondered if brown rice was ok. I always see white rice and boiled chicken as the bland ingredients and maybe some chicken broth but wondered if there was a down side to brown rice as I'd think it was healthier?

Thanks for any help! He's peppy and happy just not eating much and throwing up most of what he does eat. He's raw feeding just on chicken and offal and mackerel right now (or was until a day ago). Chews it all up just fine and has boundless energy and drinking water well so my question was more what is the difference between brown and white rice for a bland diet. Second pup threw up a bit as well but is eating fine now and keeping it down though his stools are soft still.

Best,

M

Yes, must be WHITE rice, but instead of Chicken, I used Boiled hamburger, drained very, very well. Everyone has their own versions of the bland-diets, but WHITE rice is always one of the ingredients. My vet specifically told me NOT to use any other rice. Heck, I use minute rice, it's done in less than 5 minutes from the time water boils. Worked great for Beau and I, but, two days or so really isn't long enough to get a troublesome stomach in order. I fed the burger/rice for over 2 weeks, while waiting for it to sort out. He started his kibble only yesterday. Also, it's like changing any dog food, transition slowly.

Thanks DDR! His stools were fine today of course and he didn't even want to touch the bland food but instead went for our husky's kibble (Orijen)...Dogs I tell you lol. Also my order of canned pumpkin arrived this morning so that should sort him out if he is still having problems but I think his were vaccination related. Will try hamburger in the future and keep white rice on hand, just asked because we mostly eat brown and that's what we had. He ate some chicken necks (I know not ideal raw feeding) and then the kibble so we'll see what that combo does for him lol. Thanks again.
