is there any chance that an aggressive malinois will be able to socialize with people and even other animals? my dog's very aggressive..she would bark to anyone she would see moving closer to our house...we weren't able to let her out for many months...that's why...I'm really hoping we could find a way to change her behavior towards others and let them see how sweet and loving she is..I feel hurt when people say my dog is annoying because it's aggressive.. she's the sweetest dog we ever had...thanks for the advise in advance :)

Where do you live? How old is she?

Have you never done any obedience class when she was a puppy?

No unfortunately... she's a year and a half now... I am still happy that she follows me when I say something even without any hand gestures...she's really smart..but I know basic obedience would have been very helpful to her. I am from the phil. :) thanks

Malinois can be tough.  A lot depends on the individual dog.  Some are better off being used police dogs.

If you live in New England, I know someone that can evaluate the dog and make suggestions.

If you don't live in NE, I would suggest trying to talk with a member of a police K9 unit to find a trainer with experience with Malinois.  Just call them up and ask them for the name of a trainer that works with police dogs.

Malinois can be extremely dangerous as you probably know.  Not recommended as a pet (they can bond really well to the owner, but be aggressive towards everything else).  They can easily jump an 8 foot fence, which isn't good if they are aggressive.

Once a dog has the aggression, it's always in them.  The only way to deal with it is to learn how to control the aggression.  That means a lot of time and training and money.

Yes Jeff I think so too.. I am willing to enroll my dog to any kinds of training if necessary... I think that's what I have to do know...I sometimes feel sorry for her when I see her like wanting to play with others or do what a typical mal do.. If I could find a good trainer... I would spend money and time if needed..I admit, it's my fault, when we first got her, all I was thinking was having her as a companion... but as time goes by, I realized mals are not just pets... they need work and they need to socialize with others too. Whoever could help me with my dog, I would be very thankful.. I live in the Phil. there are so many mals here, I know there are also good trainers but I just didn't know how to reach to them. I hope it's not too late for her :( I'll do whatever it takes to make her life better...cheers :) thanks a lot

I think you are being hard on yourself.  You can treat 2 dogs out of the same litter the exact same and they will turn out completely differently.  I've got 2 dogs the same age by the same breeder got at the same time and one is aggressive and the other isn't.  It's just that Mals tend to be in the extreme.  Be glad you have one that you've bonded with.  Some can be handler or owner aggressive.  Besides, aggression sometimes doesn't show itself until the 2nd year.

If you're willing to make the investment, I think you'll end up with a great dog.  I think reaching out to a K9 police unit would be helpful.  I think those guys have to put in time with a trainer or they lose their certification.  We work with 2 trainers - one currently has 2 Mals and has owned others.  The other trainer obtains aggressive dogs and trains them for the police.

Good luck.

Ok here is the person who can really really help you & should be close to where you live comparing to a lot of others.

I can vouch for him to the extent that he is a solid grounded good teacher.

hardred,
It is unfortunate that you did not understand the breed or how to raise it before you began.
Would have been so much easier.
No advice except respect what the dog is capable of.
Moons.
