I just got some heartbreaking news.
One of the top A.S.L. showdogs in the U.S. has passed away from a tragic accident. Stuttgart's Single Action v. Hammersmith, better known by his call name, Cowboy, has died as a result of getting his collar hung up on something.
This should be a heads-up to everyone re. the danger of leaving collars on dog when they are unattended. I do it too, for safety. Although this sort of tradgedy is rare, if it happens to you, you will never forgive yourself.
My sincere condolences to those who bred, handled and loved this magnificent dog.

I lost a 2 year old GSD 15 years ago who was being boarded and choked to death trying to climb out of the run and getting stuck at the top - no collar involved.
Since that time however I have only used the Breakaway collar on my dogs.

Dogs can be choked to death by their collar just when playing with another dog and one biting and getting caught on the collar of the other.

Years ago I saw and still have a newspaper clipping where a dog hangs itself on a wooden fence when it jumped up and got it's collar stuck...
I NEVER leave any collar on my dogs while they're in a Run...Too many things can happen while unattended...Dogs do many surprising things that we think they can't...I hope I've learned a lot and try to keep my dogs/animals safe...But accidents still happen...
RIP Young Boy...

Loosing an animal is never easy, especially when its unexpected.
Sending good vibes to his owner, handler and breeder. Rest Easy Cowboy.

This dog actually produced very nicely too, even with working lines. A number of his progeny went into actual working homes, which is impressive. He was a step into the right direction for sure.
I hope he was collected.
