English summary: BSP dog bit a kid..a family member. The kid required more than 100 stitches !! Picture of dog on Stern's website. The incident has been in the press and on TV. Stern is running a TV show on it Wednesday.

whats the full name of that dog? It seems pretty funny how the owner is telling reports that the dog is harmless when he bit the child and ended up having 100 stitches! Can you now tell me this dog is harmless? I wonder if SV will considered of banning this dog and his progeny? It shows that the dog is obviously has weak nerves.

The dogs name was not released in the article. Go look at his photo, maybe someone can identify him.

I wonder why his kennel name hasn't been released in the article. I’m not too familiar with the working lines so I have no clue. I hardly fallow up on BSP. I hope somebody with working line knowledge would ID this dog.

Sorry M.Carter when I need to correct your information (just for the record). The STERN tv-show (with Günther Jauch on the RTL- televisionchannel) you are referring to, was LAST wednesday, october 20th at 22:15 hours. Sorry about that!

by M.Carter on 25 October 2004 - 12:10

Jantie, was informed this morning that it will be RE-run this coming wednesday night on Stern.

by Jantie on 25 October 2004 - 14:10

Oops! My sincere appologies to you Sir! A shame I cannot watch it in Belgium.

by M.Carter on 25 October 2004 - 17:10

Jantie, no appologie necessary :D I appreciate you keeping me on my toes. I should have been more clear in my first message. It's come to my attention that the child who was attacked is being blamed for the dog attacking him. I am outraged that someone would blame a child who was mauled by a family dog for prompting the attack. The child was left in charge of the dog so he apparently was used to handing such a creature.

Looks like a dark sable working-line dog to me - how can anyone identify a dog's kennel name or bloodlines from a head-shot picture? It is terrible whenever something like this happens to any GSD let alone a SchH-titled dog, certainly not the norm in working or other lines.

by sunshine on 25 October 2004 - 19:10

The blurb on Stern TV, does not say anything about the dog being titled. It does not say that the 7 year old was a family member. It does not even say that the picture on the site is of the dog in question. It does say that dog bites stemming from the GSD are alarmingly high statistically and that in the TV report Guenther Jauch will be asking the question : how dangerous is the GSD? and be speaking with victims of bite attacks, Breeders and Owners. . .
