Generalizations are all well and good but just that .. generalizations. A greyhound covers ground in a way that a sled dog can not emulate and a greyhound is not a good pulling dog. The thoroughbred is quite different from a quarter horse and neither can replace the other in their chosen work. Likewise I have seen some GSD supposedly well gaited for show with a completely fake and useless windmill like gait while police type GSD have a more muscular movement and the herding GSD variant has the effortless gait that came down to the GSD from the Gray Wolf.
