Ruger1,

Your puppy is fine, you are missing the point.

THE POINT...............If your program is a mess,
and you practice it as a mess, it will just get worse.
Clean it up, go back to a sold foundation, simple
and few words that Phil has given you. Use these
words as executable commands, not as request given
in time of doldrum. They are the standard like the
breed has it's standard . Build on that before you go to
the next step. Don't use a hard correction for bad command

The squirt gun and the treats are bad ideas, the treat is a reward for finding the offending article in the first place, and the water is idiotic.
Doesn't matter what command you use, and it can have more then one meaning.
As long as the dog knows what you want it to do.
I teach it on a leash, and with a boot if need be.

No , leave it, get the hell outta there, all mean about the same thing to my dog.
It comes in handy.

"A leader without expert knowledge of, & affection, of the dog will acheive only mediocre results with the best trained dogs; while an expert dog-loving leader can acheive good results with a dog of only fair capacity. IN other words, the whole question is not only a question of the dog, but quite as much, if not more so, a question of the fitness of the leader"

The dog can tell from the glance of the trainer the state of the trainer's soul"

"Know what your work is & do it"

work is an indispensable necessity for the shepherd dog

The most striking feature of the correctly bred German Shepherd are firmness of nerves, attentiveness, unshockability, tractability, watchfulness, reliability and incorruptibility together with courage, fighting tenacity, and hardness.

Take this trouble for me: Make sure my shepherd dog remains a working dog, for I have struggled all my life long for that aim

Utility is the true criterion of beauty

The breeding of Shepherd dogs must be the breeding of working dogs, this must always be the aim or we shall cease to produce working dogs

The above quotes are all form Max von Stephanitz

Not from a member of this board, Hamza, but I applaud you.  These are the quotes all of us should remember, particularly those who breed GSD...

From the thread (Look of Eagles - Fire in the eyes - it's unmistakable when you see it)

you will see a photo of two GSD puppies that have this rare, unmistable look, a look of total confidence, and a message of "don't mess with me".
this look used to be so much more prominant with the dogs years ago from Mutz lines, and the breeders Hausbeck, Korbelback, and yes even Wildsteiger (who produced some very excellent working temperament). I have never seen a puppy with this look that grew up which would not spontaneously hit a helper or aggressor without any training and without excellent and true working GSD temperament.
This eagle eye or fire in the eye look is the look of determination and total confidence. It is always amazing and impressive to see it in young puppies or for that matter any GSD.

quote from Mr. van Oirschot. "The average buyer of a GSD puppy wants quality. His priorities are a dog with good health, a clear representative of his breed, sound character and a reliable companion. He wants a manageable, obedient dog and as he is involved in a range of activities he does not want bureaucratic rules in a busy world where he wants to relax and spend quality time with his dog. The GSD can be that quality dog. It is our task to breed the German Shepherd as such and to maintain him as man’s number one best friend. If he were here today Von Stephanitz would aim for this too. I’m sure of it"!

"...you cannot demand more from a trial otherwise it will become a goal in itself, a sport, and will harm instead of being useful to the breeding effort."
~Captain Max von Stephanitz

“Trials always remain trials, they can never be completely like real life, same as the exercise can never be equal to war. But we can all recognize if the leader and his troops are ready for the real thing, and so it is for trials.

It is the responsibility of the judges to conclude based on the exercises and the way in which they were solved if the dog is suited for work. Of course, the mistakes of the handler and of the training must be taken into account. Such a judgment about the suitability for work is useful for the breeding effort, but you cannot demand more from a trial otherwise it will become a goal in itself, a sport, and will harm instead of being useful to the breeding effort.

We must realize that we do not breed and work for exhibitions or trials but for our breed and to serve the general public (common good). Trial artists do not serve this purpose anymore than empty exhibition winners, and performance trials are to real work as a school exam is to real life as many pupils will fail in real life that excelled in school exams and had an excellent final report.”

(p.1130 Max v Stephanitz Der Deutsche Schaeferhund in Wort und Bild 8th edition 2nd replication print of 1932 edition, SV 1987)
