Hello All, I recently had my female mated to a dog, the stud fees charged was $600, unfortunalely she didn't get pregnant and the stud dog died in a road accident 20 days after mating took place, the stud dog owner doesn't have anyother show dog for re-mating, so what happens to the stud fees now, and can also somebody please send me info on the SV regualtions for studding and breeding a dog. Thanks

The amount of the stud fee is irrelevant. How "recent" was the mating, was it long enough to determine the Dam is not pregnant? If it were my stud and it happened EXACTLY like you said it did, it would be a no brainer, I would give you your money back, because it would be the right thing to do.....if it happened EXACTLY like you said it did.

In Germany you are entilted to one repeat breeding. If the stud dog is sold or dies, and there is no other stud dog you can apply the stud fee to, you are entitled to half of the stud fee back. Other breeding rules are: min age for stud dog 24 month, for female 20 months at time of breeding. Show rating of at least G, HD a-stamp of at least a3, BH, AD, min of SchH1 or equivalent. KKL is desired but not requried. That applies for litter whelped in Germany. If you have no written agreement with the stud dog owner and there was no guarantee for live pups, there may be little you can do in the US. You paid for stud services, which was supplied. Looks like you both had a loss here. You might want to ask him if he plans to replace the dog at some time and if so if you use the stud fee then. Next time get the particulars before the breeding. And put it in writing. Too late after the fact...

Thanks...SGBH and D.H you both are great help and very informative. SGBH it happened exactly as i told you. D.H there weas no written agreement and there was no guaranttee for live pups but the condition was placed on pregnancy.

"the condition was placed on pregnancy" that is very sketchy. She could have been pregnant but then aborted. A stud dog owner has no way of getting proper proof unless you took her in for an ultrasound at day 23 and again around day 30 after mating. And since you have nothing in writing you basically have no case, other than hope that the dogs owner is nice enough to look after you. Keep in mind that you both had a significant loss here. You should help each other. A kind word will probably get you further than any demands placed now. Keep the communication going. If you are not getting anywhere, take the loss and file it under life's lessons. Or at least try to secure a breeding for any possible future stud dog this guy might get down the road. That's about all that can be done here.

I know how you are feeling. I payed $600 for a stud fee, bitch is not pregnant, and I sold her shortly after confirming her NOT bred. Well, my other female came up w/bad hips, so I have nothing to breed to the male, and he can't afford to pay me back, so I am stuck with nothing. I wish you luck, I am still trying to think of a salution, I can't really afford to buy another female either. He is a nice guy, though, and if I could think of a way to work it out, he would. Anyway, I personally think you should get your stud fee back, but that is the kind of person I am. That is WHAT I WOULD DO, not necessarily what other breeders would do. Take care!
