Dawulf

Hey all.... I'm hoping someone can help me find a certain leash I have seen used at herding trials. I recently picked up an extra part time job (will possibly be losing my primary job soon, so I'm trying to at least have somewhat of a backup until I can find something else, IF worse comes to worse), and I will be opening the store once a week. The manager has okayed me bringing my GSD in with me. She knows Qira and knows she is well-behaved and whatnot, and also knows she's not afraid to put the fear of God into those she deems worthy  (love my puppy <3). Qira already comes to my other job with me every night, and is well versed in her roll as deterrent.

Anyway, the only leashes I have are 2 4 footers (one in the house, one in the car) and then a 10 footer. I was thinking that the leash I saw at a herding trial would be really helpful - then I can keep her tethered to me while still having the use of both of my hands. It was leather and wrapped around either the owners waist or draped over one shoulder (I think the latter, I'm having a hard time remembering details) It had a clip on the part that wrapped around the owner, I believe to the main leash part, and then a clip that hooked to the dogs collar. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and  where I could possibly get something like that? I forget what they were calling it at the trial, but I tried Googling "herding leash" and "shepherd's leash" and couldn't find anything.

Some kind of quick release leash would also be an interesting idea, but I have no idea where to even start on that. In a perfect world, I could bring in a mat/blanket/whatever, and she'd stay on that in the back, offleash, until she was summoned. But I have a feeling she wouldn't want to stay put, especially if she heard someone else in the store.

Any suggestions or ideas?

You might be surprised how well-behaved she'll be. I'm not saying don't keep looking for the leash, but remember she spent her entire puppyhood in a gorgeous 22,000 sq ft clubhouse of a luxury condo complex and was mostly angelic (except the time she and Caleb snuck off and were discovered in the pool Red Smile oops....). I was the Sales Manager and alone a lot and she was with me every day. She was very good about staying in the office, even if I had to go outside. As many places as she's been (she ought to write a book, really) with both of us, I think she'll be fine once she adjusts and understands what you expect of her. Good for you on getting permission to bring her with and congrats on the job!

I got this one 20 years ago.. still have it. I think they will have it made for you with the "quick release" snap if you call and ask..

They also make a black one..

Thanks everyone!!  I think the "police leash" is closest to what I'm thinking of. Though the 8-way leash is intriguing as well.

Jen, I have no doubt she'll be good, and before the store itself is opened, I'll probably have her offleash. It's just after the store opens, and just mainly until she learns the ropes. She's learned to be pretty vocal with my main job... and is always checking to see who it is the second she hears someone - which is excellent, that's what I want. But in this job, I don't need her running up front barking her head off  every time someone comes in. Trying to build business back up there, not give the customers a heart attack. ;) So it'd be best to have something to tether her up with, at least until she learns what her job is there.

We make a police lead in either leather or biothane and you can get it with a bolt snap or lockingjaw snap on our website.  We also have quick release scissor snaps that you can custom request.  If you are looking for something a little different than the police lead, we make custom design items all the time.  Let me know if you have any questions.

I don't know if you are still looking at different leashes, but I came across the Jaeger lead from Mendota Products and thought of you. I have had several leads and collars from Mendota and they have all been very well made.
