Good evening everyone I need help with my 11 month pup, every time. I let him out of the crate or go to feed him he starts whining really loud. Like someone doing something to him, please HELP

If this is new, first take to vet to make sure everything is ok
If all checks out, then only pay attention pup when its quiet.
Vocals such as this are usually either a medical problem or you've inadvertently trained the pup to do this.

How much time is he spending in the crate?

it could be just the way he communicates....everytime he is excited (which for most dogs is it at every new activity).

My latest addition is a non stop whiner, he whines when he is laying down (while calming down from what ever he was doing earlier), he whines when he is let out, he whines when he plays w/ other dogs, i didn't know there are so many various "whiny" sounds that a dog can make...when he comes to me he whines as if to say something, or announce his arrival...i have to tell him to shut up when he is in the house and he learned to zip it for the most part, half the time i don't think he notices he is doing it...

Like yesterday in the kitchen he had his dinner he lays on the rug and every time he exhaled he made whiny sound...i finally said "shut up", he repositioned himself made one more hard exhale and stopped...when i moved to living room he followed started it again while on his bed, once again i had to tell him to shut up, and he did....most dogs can control excitement, he learned to control the physical response (he used to be like a cow on ice in the house) but the vocal part remains....maybe with age he will stop...i can only hope.

At first it used to drive me crazy, he is not a barker he just recently started barking when someone comes on property but he sure whines, he was checked out by a vet when i got him there was nothing wrong its just how he is, he is very vocal when objecting, if u say his name he responds -  once again by making whiny kind of sound....he is 3 years old....great dog, great disposition i guess if he had to have a flaw, this is the least expensive one to deal with even if it is the most annoying one....

Okay, can't handle this anymore...'whinny', pronounced 'win-ee' is what a horse does. A dog that whines a lot is 'WHINY'!

Sorry, I used to teach English, so I can't help it...  Red Smile

My now 17 months old is a screamer;  not happy about that either, but we are slowly teaching him to be "quiet" then he gets attention to proceed with whatever we are doing;  loud screaming.  Just like a little tantrum a child has that screams or crys and kicks their feet while doing so.  Really do not like that behavior at all.  There is always a "bark" collar but think my guy would have a fit if I put it on him now as I feel he is really immature for his age, very much a puppy, however, does not do it at feeding has learned real quick that that won't fly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thx  Nan

You know your dog best...and in that I mean you know when he does the "Whiny" thing...So if he's done it for awhile then maybe you know when he does it...When I first read your post my first impression or thought was that he's doing it in anticipation of something...Sounds like something he likes...Like coming out of his crate...eating...etc...It does appear as though he's communicating with you...But what is he saying? Our dogs communicate in different ways...Sometimes they're doing so each in different ways...Some Whine...some Bark...some Dig...some Scratch...

I would say that if you can rule out any Medical problems that you need to be sure he gets enough exercise...He could be wanting your attention...

Some dogs are cry babies. If you search for German Shepherds in particular there is no end.  jagger42, do you have video of your dog or know it is similar to one online? Meet Stevie...

Poor Stewart.... sounding more pathetic than ever. He is SO spoiled. We were only gone 10 minutes but he stopped after 5 this time... so he's getting better....
