......speechless...

Examiner Note: I was told that the people who did this to Courage released him to the Good Samaritan on the condition that their identity would not be revealed. At the time, the individual agreed to the stipulation because it was in the best interest of the dog. The rescue does not know who did this to Courage. May they never own another living being.

I am not finding him on their web page to donate to.  Any additional info?

There is a special place in hell for people like that.

That was from 2010. If i am not mistaken, he has made a wonderful comeback  and has a family of his own now.

That was su h a horrific case of neglect, equal.y as horrific is the fact his torturers were never prosecuted.

Just what kind of sickening  person (s) can allow their dog to get lime that.

You are right kat......i saw a link while looking at something else and didnt see a year anywhere in the article...it did say April....here is update..on this site..http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/courage.html

4/13/10 A really great day today! He is struggling to stand and has taken a few baby steps! This boy is an inspiration to all of us. We know he feels the love and warmth of so many people pulling for him. Courage did a media 'interview' today and even had a few words for the camera! The reward story hit our local paper so we hope that our phone starts ringing with tips!

4/15/10 Continuing to defy the odds, Courage is rebounding very well. He is taking steps and really doesn't seem to know what all the fuss is all about. He just cares about eating and getting lots of attention! A suspect is under investigation and we are hopeful that an arrest will be made!

April 16 - Nine days after his rescue, Courage's tormentor has been CAUGHT! This success is thanks to EVERYONE pulling together to close in on this animal abuser.

April 18 -- Courage is recuperating nicely in a quiet foster home. He is walking a little more each day and eating well. We have had an offer to get him some "swim therapy" to help him grow stronger, so we may treat him to this!

Courage asked us to thank everyone for their generous gifts for his care. He has met his fund raising goal and asks if his supporters can turn their attention to Pluto, a fellow canine in need of vet care. Please visit Pluto's bio page.

April 22 -- Courage went for his blood test today. He has gained 20 pounds since his 4/7 rescue! (So much for his past owner's excuse that he thin because he was sick!) He is upright and has found his voice! This is one talkative dog--he has a lot to say! He is still bony but not as frail and he definitely has more stamina! Hurray!

Officers with the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority today arrested Kimberly Nizato, 26, of Bellflower, Calif., in connection with the abuse and neglect of Courage, the German shepherd dog tied up and left to die for five weeks. He's currently being cared for byGerman Shepherd Rescue of Orange County after his near-death starvation experience.

Nizato, who voluntarily arrived at SEAACA headquarters this morning, is a young motherand  works part-time at a veterinary hospital.

"We're baffled here at SEAACA," said Capt. Aaron Reyes. "I don’t think you have to work for a veterinary hospital to know that an animal shouldn't be half his body weight."

Bail is set at $50,000, and Nizato is scheduled to be arraigned either Monday or Tuesday, said Reyes. The charge presented will be felony animal cruelty, which carries with it upwards of five years in prison.

Officers set out to arrest Nizato last night at herBellflower home, but she was at work at the vet hospital. SEAACA officials gave their business card to Nizato's father with the request that his daughter call them to answer a few questions about the dog. The next day, she did that and was told to bring in "Bosco's" paperwork. Once it was confirmed she was the dog's owner, she was arrested.

"She just said she knew the dog was in bad shape and she was a bit embarrassed because of her profession," said Reyes. "She was panicking…She was very, very scared. She looked very nervous and very scared."

According to Reyes, Nizato told him she had given the dog to someone, and that someone contacted GSROC. Once Nizato realized she was under arrest, she invoked her rights and stopped volunteering information.

What's next? SEAACA will continue to gather information and build its case against Nizato.

"The dog is receiving care and she's off the streets," said Reyes. "We've done our job."

Some stories have happy endings... You woudn't believe it's the same dog, would you? Teeth Smile

As far as I recall, Nizato was fined, and banned from owning animals (hopefully for life!.)  There were other animals on her property that had also been neglected, none as badly as Courage. It was a miracle that he survived! His gut was full of dirt that he'd eaten in an effort to ease the hunger pangs. The vet had to disempact him, because he couldn't pass the dirt and mud in his rectum on his own!

IIRC, Nizato also lost her job at an animal hospital.

Courage weighed 37 lbs. at the time of his rescue. My first GSD, a female who was 26 inches tall, weighed 35 lbs. The vet didn't think SHE was going to live, either! She did, though she was never very healthy.

Nothing quite equals the satisfaction of knowing you've save a dog from certain death... Regular Smile

I missed the date too.   I just do not get people like that.  I hope that person gets a "special" welcome on the bridge.

Fawn, they will probably all forgive her, the way a good dog does... Cry Smile

Yes, you are correct.  Dogs forgive everything.

Figures, that POS was here in CA.  Glad they caught her and hope she NEVER gets another animal.  Have a great day everybody,  Nan
