I am wondering if I should enable email notifications.

If I do enable them it would be for

  • Forum update (so if someone replies to a forum post you have subscribed, you get an email)
  • Pedigree
    • Pedigree is updated
    • Picture is updated
    • Someone comments

Would this be used? (or would pedigreedatabase.com simply be flagged as a spam domain and blocked.)

I like the idea of being notified anytime someone was to makes changes to one of my pedigrees.. What can be done for those who bought the dog and did not make the pedigree but want to make an update

Anyone can make an update.  Precisely since there is no way for PDB to track ownership.

  • Breeder A registers a litter and then breeder B buys from that litter. Breeder B should be able to make adjustments
  • An owner registers his/hers dog pedigree.  Breeders/owners of the ancestors should be able to make modifications.
  • etc...

There is no good way to say "Only these users can modify".   It needs to be open for all.

As for modifications on pedigrees, I think that it should remain open ( I'll explain in a moment), but, the original poster should be notified.
My reason why ped updates should remain open; Closing the pedigree modifications is practiced on Workingdogs-eu. Someone posted one of my females on there, which I raised from an eight week old puppy, so I know know her history . The person who posted her, placed a title of SVVI on her, and SG show rating....neither are true. Also, they put her as "Long coat", she is unmistakably Short coat. I cannot make corrections, and the website has not answer my concern about the misinformation. So, I see closing the pedigree upgrades as detrimental.

If there are problems or questions about updates on a pedigree...What are the ways to have them checked and/or corrected...?

I think it would be nice to not only have the Owner's name but to have Past Owner's names and Breeder's name/info...

I believe the e-mail update notification would be a nice thing to have...I...as one...definitely would like to be notified of changes on my pedigrees...I think this would also help keep the pedigrees updated and correct...

"There is no good way to say "Only these users can modify".   It needs to be open for all."

Open to all is different than saying, member x wants an email on pedigree update. If I subscribe to that email upon change then it really doesn't matter if I am the owner, breeder or just interested in that pedigree.

I would love email notifications for PMs (or is this feature currently available)?

Just a quick note for those who may not be aware of this: the current system does allow you to see who originally posted the pedigree, and who made any modifcations.

As someone who has entered a lot of pedigrees for dogs that were long dead, in an effort to complete my own dog's pedigree, I agree the system needs to be open, but I would darn well want to know if someone mucked around with my dog's pedigree!

Ok,   I'll create an Opt-in email notification system.

Of course for pedigree's it would just be that particular dog.  Not (for instance) if someone changed the mother/father/grand... etc.. too much risk of massive email spamming and getting my domain blocked.

Many thanks Oli. I appreciate the email notification for PMs.
