Yes there is a lot of homework to do about feeding raw;  (Save our Shepherds, SOS)  Jane Anderson's PWD's is the original raw feeder and her website goes into prey model raw feeding extensively also has health details when feeding raw;  BARF diet by Ian Billingshurtst (not sure about SP onBillingshurst);  many books on homecooking for your dogs with plenty of recipe's that are balanced and healthy.  These are just a few and truthfully you need to find a good source of raw meat and variety;  farmers/ranchers/fish mongers/butchers to help you with different sources of meat.  I grocery store shop as that is all I can find around here and it is really NOT the way to feed raw but better than nothing.  So there you have it.  Also if you have friends that hunt, deer, elk, antelope all good and you definitely need a freezer to stock up when you can get meats.  BOL  Nan

An afterthought;  there are pre-prepared frozen diets that are sold and shipped directly to you;  also some dehydrated diets available that claim to be raw;  most of these if you read the ingredients are mostly balanced diets so it takes the guess work out of the balance part.  Somewhat convenient but not very economical.  I am currently trying out K9 Kravings on three dogs, in about 3 months I will know if it has what it takes.  Nan

While a raw diet is certainly better it is not cheaper than kibble.  Your looking to breed a 9 year old dog and want to save money on dog food?

+1 from me on this. Some folks are able to do raw on the extreme cheap but cost really varies by geography and who you know. For example, we receive free meat from the Hutterites when they butcher their livestock but how many people live next door to a Hutterite community?

My husband hunts so raw is the best option for us all the way around. We have been feeding it for 4 months. Our dogs coat is shiny and soft. Her energy is increased. However, she has awful gas at times.
