Show?...This is a serious question and I am wondering the differences between the 4-6 mo/6-9mon/9-12mo class...Are they all the same? If a novice who has never shown before would showing in the 4-6 mo old class for the first time be ideal or are chances SIGNIFICANTLY better with an experienced handler? Thanks again Dan

I wanted to know as I plan to have an experienced handler show my Hill female in the 9-12mo class at the 2005 U.S.A. Seiger Show but was wondering as I may show or let my daughter (9yrs old) show her pup in the 4-6 mon old class unless it makes a significant difference or in this age group is it primarily looks of dog or also handling of leash etc....?

Her pup by the way is a VA1 Bax female (don't know if this makes a difference?

There is no off leash handling for that class. It is only done in the working class. It takes more than just a nice dog to SHOW UP at the sieger show. What kind of preparations are you making? Attend shows in your region first. Then, take that experience onward. You could have an outstanding dog which if not ring trained, would look awful in a show of that magnitude. There are so many club level shows in various regions that would be beneficial to anyone in preparation for the sieger show. It doesn't matter if your pup is out of a sieger, if the pup is not cut out for the 'show thing', then what??? How do you find out about your pup? Club level and regional shows.

Hello Dan The handler you use is very important for the older dogs. Your daughter will be Ok if she has experience with handling and some training. It is just a puppy the place is not important and it might be much of fun for your daughter. Perhaps a local show along with the right training for both could work. I feel that it is great to get young children involved, so why not. If the puppy moves well and is well constructed it should do fine. The puppy you take home is the same you brought to the show. But, your daughter will have something to remember for a long time.

And. . . Nicos. . . Dan. . . she may develop an interest and start wanting to show dogs as a hobby. Dan, check out the AKC Matches list in your area. All for fun and entry like $5.00. Might be a nice start for your daughter. Also check out your local AKC club to see if they have any handling classes. It is not the same thing but they can teach her how to stack and run a dog. You have a few months and maybe there is a professional AKC handler in your area that can help. It is people like you that keep this for us as a hobby. Go for it!!!
