My female should be in heat soon, but I am undecided which dog to breed her with, not sure if its better to consider the individual characteristics of each dog, or their pedigrees and line breeding. I do not have very many good choices available, and in this country its very difficult to get impartial adivce from anyone with experience (the most experienced breeders being the owners of the dogs in question!). If anyone is prepared to give me any objective advice or suggestions please could you let me know your e-mail address, or write to me directly to mine and I can let you know the details of my female and the dogs available, most are registered on this data base. Many thanks.

i personally am in the same situation -- i Fanto Hirshel grandauter i am breeding now --- excellent confirmation and a lot of deep red .. maybe to much redness for my personal liking ..she has done protection work on a bite suit and very good temperament .. not to shabby for show line at all !! .. i have a yasko and larus son for males -- well that can speak for itself here .. now i have a 1/2 show line and 1/2 exceptional working line of another male , which conformation is at least i would say a .SG . -- at 10 months of age he surpassed any dog in training at the police academy - i did a demo with him at 10 months .. he did an attack and guard /hold and escape apprehension all in one exercise and he defended me against an atack then a guard transport of the villian . . he is nice deep rich black and tan .. very handsome dog . SOOOOO , who do i breed -=- ?? the reason i share this is that -- YOU CANNOT PASS ON TO THE PROGENY WHAT THE PARENTS THEMSELVES DO NOT HAVE FOR GENES [ dominant or recessive ]/ that is it in a nut shell -- structurally or behaviorally . so bottom line is 1. what does your breed stock have phenotypically / genotypically and 2. what exactly are your goals and purpose for the breeding ?? that simple of a decsion but sometimes very involved knowing the answers to 1 and 2. -- i decided to breed the Fanto Hirshel grandaughter with my 1/2 show and working line -- 1. i want the explosive drive , the temperamnet , the intelligence level , this stress level [ moderate hardness coupled with moderate aggression ],the ability to perform [ stamina and endurance characteristics ] -the GSD is a working breed -- i am bothered by a very showy dog that cannot work / service [which would be diifernet traits to seek ]or a working dog that is good just for the short haul . i have seen police dogs exhausted after doing a schutzhund blind search twice .. pitiful- GSD shpuld run for hours .. i know the offspring of this breeding will have good structure and because of the lineages / gene base - the pups should look quite nice .. maybe not VA .. but certainly quite respectable --

Hi Oso not many choices. At first glance I would go with Hero. I will send a more detailed message directly to you later. Alpha - very unpopular choice, but sometimes these are necessary if you want to follow YOUR goals. Not every generation needs to be superb on its own, but they can very well be a superb base for future generations.
