Junior handling - Page 1

Hey, I'm melissa chavez. I have been showing in dog shows for a lil over a year. I'm just about to start showing in juniors. The thing is that i'm not sure if i should so my shepherd in juniors of my cardigan. Can someone help

If you are wanting to know whether you should show your GSD or Cardigan (corgi...I assume) I would have to remind you that Juniors is about your handling skills, not how the dog looks. I am just almost out of Juniors and have friends who show a variety of dogs including GSDs. Handling a corgi is pretty much more straightforward and less challenging than a GSD. Remember GSDs need a lot of room and have a different handling style than most other dogs. It is harder to win with a GSD in Juniors in all breed, but in specialties, it is very rewarding. I would practice with whichever dog you really want to show with. There are of course other factors which are personal. Going back a few years now but when I used to handle as a junior I always found that you only ever won when you handled at breed shows. It was always the Poodles etc... handlers that won unfortunately. For some reason alot of judges didn't like GSD's. I know it is supposed to be about how you handle and not how the dog performs but in past experience this has not always been the case. Whatever you do go with your heart because if you heart is not in it then you will not perform to the best of your ability. Hope that helps.

I Think I'm just going to show under shepherd judges that i know are good judges. See i don't want to show under someone i have no chance under. SO thats how i'm going to show jovan...Except when Gingers gone while shes getting bred then i have no chose but to use jovan.
