I had a post removed because it was begging people to not adopt rabbits as pets at Easter, then dump them. Guess FB decided I was trying to sell rabbits...

A friend had a post removed about the stud (now DECEASED!) that fathered her foal. Guess FB thought she was trying to sell horses...

It REALLY has gotten totally ridiculous!!

What if I have them set to private view only, are they still subject to removal?

by duke1965 on 20 August 2019 - 06:08

supposedly a request from PETA makes them remove lots of videos from lots of people worldwide, guess thousands of people who know nothing about dogsport etc are viewing videos and removing anything they think is abusive to dogs

Think it is more complicated than that, Duke: yes no doubt there are people who don't know what they are looking at who will find seeing a dog supposedly 'thrashed' with a(ny old) stick in a Training vid in their eyes cruel & offensive. But it goes wider than that; YouTube, FB and others are concerned, after recent criticisms of how they operate, to be seen to be removing anything they find, or is brought to their attention, that anybody might be offended by. As Sunny points out, not just dog videos hit by this. Not even just about animals. Doubt we should be giving PETA ( as an organisation) any credit for this (they should be so lucky or influential !).

Sorry, I am writing as though I think YouTube and FB are all one & the same body. I don't - but I do think the 'social media' are all running on the same track at the moment; sort of 'running scared' except they share a common arrogance that they can do what they like.

Betcha anything re CUDDLING and kissing dogs & cats gets to stay on, though ! Or dressing them up in clothes. Pah !!!

Not sure this isn't a FB 'front' for behind-the-smokescreen carrying on using a lot of the other stuff re peoples' preferences and 'private' details in ways that have also been condemned. Deflects attention nicely.

I belong to a leatherworking FB page. People posting pictures of their work can no longer use the words 'knife' or 'gun' if they are posting pictures of a knife sheathe or gun holster. They have to come up with a fancy euphemism for these words, or their posts will be removed!

This happens even though they are NOT trying to sell their work, just brag about it!

The breeder of one of my dogs has a FB page. The other day, I was trying to direct someone to her page, as she had puppies available, and neither of us could find it, in spite of having the exact name. Again, I think it's due to FB's draconian new rules about selling animals! I finally had to give the person her e-mail, so she could send him an invite.

Someone did a cartoon about the new rules, showing a number of men in a prison cell. Unfortunately, I can't post the picture here, as the uploading app has been disabled, but one man asks: "What are y'all in for?"

One man says, "Posting gun pics", and another says, "Saying I supported free speech" and the third, "I tried to sell a fish!"  Roll eyes

One of the people commenting on the cartoon said FB will no longer even allow her to advertise her boarding stable!

think we are reaching a point of insanity here, but how to push back on this crap ?

by ValK on 20 August 2019 - 17:08

as long as masses due to lack of communication in real life remains addicted to fake reality provided
by huge corporate social media platforms, nothing can't be changed.
for private purpose, if you have gmail, you can use 15 gb google drive storage, comes free with each mail account.

@ Valk, it is not so much about how to get around it, but how to stop it, really, in Netherlands some cookies are renamed after 60 years of existence, because some people tought the name of the cookie was offensive and racist, so what is next ?
