Police training is a lot different from sports training. The PD's buy young green dogs that must be at least 2 years old. They go through extensive, hard and fast training to get them out and in the field with law enforcement, and they are often retired by the age of 7-8 years.  They don't have the time or resources to bother with training pups. They don't want to waste time and money developing anything. The dog basicaly has to be ready to go out of the box with slight modifications.
This trainer may no be the best choice for your dog. If your not a cop, you probably don't what a police K-9.
LSU Mom where are you located? Someone might be hiding a good trainier nearby.

I'm in Louisiana around kentwwod. Yea, that's why he wants to see then at 1.5 - 2yrs old. There really is no build-up to the training. They will be tested and they have it or don't. Any fear or retreat from the threat and he won't take the dog to train. That's why I don't want to test to soon and screw up the chance. They trained my female in obedience. She was 7 months at that time. He did a quick test on her then, she went to back away than came back up in front of me. He said that it was really good for her age. I just hope one of the dogs has real strong nerves and defense drive to get into PP training.
If you know of a good trainer around me that would be great.

Okay, that´s different - in this case 1 1/2 is the normal age.
The dog may stay with the trainer for around 3 to 6 months, "learning" in a hurry to sit, down, and heel, maybe barking at strangers and some bitework on leash....
At the end you get your dog back and spent a lot of money for "something".
PP means everything and nothing - what do you want your dog to learn?
I don´t know you - do you know about training dogs in obedience or bitework?
As soon as your dogs are adult, I´m pretty sure at least one of them will bark when a stranger tries to enter your home.
And I don´t know a lot of people that try to get in a house with 2 adult German Shepherds...
I´d teach them good old fashioned basic obedience,  otherwise I´d give them something to think (maybe retrieve and/or tracking) and something to work out ( riding bicycle, swimming, jogging ).
They would be absolutely fine and you´d save a lot of money ...

Well I bought Argo, a 3 yr old trained PP dog and he was wonderful. He could tell a real issue, anyone yelling at me sent him into defense but he did not attack till told or hands up at me. Once we had a issue at the camp and Argo did just what he should. People yelling about hunting on our private prop and Argo stepped in between them and me and started a low growl, he didn't attack but had they of moved closer he would of. He came from worldwide canine in Texas, they sell only top trained dogs.

Both of these dogs sit, stay, release, heel on leash and off. Both dogs are somewhat alph, the female more than the male. I would be in big trouble if I was not able to control them at this age. They can stand to be with each other off leash but not able to run with strange dogs. Both drop bite arm on command, the trainer won't take them if they are not obedience trained.

This sounds like well educated, well mannered, happy dogs!
What else do you want them to learn? And why?
I´m always for training dogs, but I´m no friend of sending them to someone else.

Well, I hope Ando will be the best for PP and Akeemi is already good at dock diving and fly ball. She can become more the "pet" and not locked up when unsupervised. If it goes the other way, Ando is good at tracking. A few people have shown interest in ando for sport so I might sell him and import a PP dog from K9 Workdogs in the Czech Republic. They had Boss Vikar trained in PP but he already sold. Everyone In the family loves the female, she is balanced and she fits us well either way. My husband and daughter can't control Ando and he is a serious dog. I don't think he can really be a pet. He challenges others in the family, my 20 year old is scared of him. She yells at him only working him up more. I tell them they have to command and correct but that call me to come get Ando away from them and don't even try. The female is obedient with everyone in the house and a all around great dog.
